Cerra was subbed out tonight with a tight hammy. So in doubt for next week.

Blues were very clean against Ess last night. We will have to be at our best to beat them. Their midfield is firing and unfortunately we will probably get smashed in the clearances again. It will depend on the team selections and outs but at this stage Im tipping Carlton sadly. :(

We lost it in the middle last time but we kicked enough goals and our backline blanketed them quite well.

I'm tipping Carlton too but if I was them I wouldn't be too confident.

Their defence is short handed as. Who mans Lynch with no weitering and then who is jack left with? Their midfield only got on top once Prestia went off injured - he was dominating before this.

Quietly confident.

If we bring our pressure with some typical hard nosed grunt we can smash them!   Carlton are very pretty with lots of lairy skills, Ess were absolutely awful last night but in the end they only went down by 4 goals.  If we get a sniff we will rip them up!     :cheers

I’m usually pretty negative about our chances compared to most .. but I think we are a real sneaky chance as well .. outside of Melbourne’s best form (which isn’t close currently), I think it will be a very even top 8

We’re a genuine chance

Michael Voss confirmed there was little chance of Cerra featuring against the Tigers in six days’ time.

“Oh yeah, he’s highly unlikely, absolutely,” Voss stated.

“So we’ll get a test, I think tomorrow or Monday might be the day we can get it fully assessed, obviously playing the Friday night game, that puts us back behind, but I would have thought he’s unlikely for the game (next) week, that’s for sure.”

Conditions are primed for Tom Lynch, with Carlton backline general Jacob Weitering sidelined with a shoulder injury.

"He's one of the best defenders in the AFL so it's a bit of a loss for them," Lynch said.

"But as you saw on the weekend (against Essendon), it didn't matter too much."

Carlton stunned Richmond in round one and has kicked on since then.

Lynch was keen to embrace the underdog tag.

"I'll be looking forward to it (being the underdog) to be honest. I think we've been underdogs for most of the year in most games," he said.

"Carlton obviously are a really good team and they gave us a touch-up earlier in the year in round one and we're looking forward to playing them again.

"But they're obviously flying at the moment so it's going to take a big effort from us.

"Playing a team a second time you learn a fair bit. We feel like we're playing much better footy than round one.

"But I think Carlton, as good as they were round one, they were exceptional that night, they've gone to another level and improved throughout the season."
