Dimma's post-game presser:

Watch here: https://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/1157453/round-15-hardwick-post-match

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

* A bit of a heartbreak really wasn't it. A great game of footy. Thought Geelong had the upper hand in the first quarter and a half before we stabilised. We looked pretty good in the second half but they're a great side. Experienced and great understanding of what players were where. We probably didn't take opportunities we worked hard for. All in all a heartbreaking loss.

* Magnets moving all over the place. We also lost Robbie Tarrant for 15 mins due to a concussion test and Jack came off due to the blood rule. It was a challenge. We have contingencies but not to that extent. The positive is the players took what we were doing on board. We do a lot work in the mental space. It was good understanding so they could execute it. A challenge to move from position to position to position but the guys did it pretty well.

* Didn't think half-time came at a good time. The second half of the second quarter we were pretty good. The first half belonged to Geelong but we started to play more the Richmond brand. Thought we were okay.

* In the second half we played more Richmond like. The gamestyle we've seen and know and love. Pressure on the ball. If you allow Geelong to control possession with contested marks they control the game defensively via their offence. Allows them to get their forwards back. We just didn't take away enough of those. We only had 6 forward half turnovers in the first half compared to 20 in the second half. More Richmond like in the second half.

* What Jeremy Cameron and Isaac Smith do well is they come down into their defence. They've got such huge motors. Hard to tell the difference too. Not many players have that special aerobic capacity to get up and back. So it's a challenge. Geelong do it well by kicking it to them. They create 2-vs-1s. Scotty had got two crackers.

* Q: Stewart had 17 intercept possessions - did you consider locking him down?
You can lock him down but another will come down back so you get the same result. What we had to do especially in the second half was to use the ball better and we thought we did and scored some goals. The challenge is that will always happen. Sides will put a number back. There are things you can do to rectify it or you can execute better. Today was more about the execution from our point of view.

* Swapped Soldo for Hugo because we felt we wanted more run in the game early. If we lost a tall then Soldo could come off the bench. The effect was negligible given how early he came on. Made the call today.

* Spoke to the players at the end of the game and you can only be proud. It was a great contest of footy. We were on the end of a heartbreaking loss today but we learnt a fair bit about ourselves and the opposition we played. We look forward hopefully to the next time we meet.

* AFL makes decisions on send offs, red cards, etc ... Clubs and coaches have no input. Could waste my time but I don't make those decisions and rightly so to be fair. Give you guys [media] something to write about other than De Goey.

I know we would have nothing to gain and more likely it would have the opposite effect but geez id love it if just once Dimma would give the umps and the AFL an almighty spray.

I'd have loved for him to say Tom Stewart was very lucky it was 90s football. Marked man type stuff.

Call me old fashioned but someone should have hurt Stewart for that.

Need an assassin in the team. Shame the only bloke I'd have been prepared to get suspended is Clarke and I doubt he'd be able to take care of it.

Hawks and Cats dynasty teams all had hard men. Hodge, Lewis, Rooke, Milburn just to name a few.

Stewart needed to be felled. Soldo could of done it. Nank shpuld have done it. No one did it and Stewart was bog and wr lost by 3 points. We were gutsy and courageous yesterday but we lost a game we had to win. With North and WCE coming up someone could have copped the weeks. It would have been worth it. Oppo clubs know now we dont respond. Its a bad look for our club.

Would’ve got double what Tommy’s getting. I think this one’s going the way of the Bachar elbow vs Blues a few years back. Club and player own the punishment but don’t accept the act was in any way malicious
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
