Our most important player(s) now?
« on: June 27, 2022, 02:05:55 PM »
Dual premiership Kangaroo David King suggested Baker, along with Shai Bolton and Jayden Short, had now taken over from senior teammates as the Tigers’ most important players.

“It’s Baker, Bolton and Short now that really drive this Richmond machine,” King told First Crack.

“The baton’s passed from (Trent) Cotchin, (Jack) Riewoldt, (Dustin) Martin and these guys to those three – and they’re grabbing it with both hands.”

Hmm still think its players like Cotchin Prestia, Lynch, JR THERE IS NO ONE TO PASS THE BATON TO THERE, Grimes and possibly Nankervis these are our most important players still.

Two seasons ago we would have steamrolled Geelong once we hit the front it didnt happen this time because 1 our best players are getting on and the others have not stepped up to replace them to the same standard.

Yes Baker has had a great 5 or 6 weeks Bolton has tons of x factor and is playing well,  only  comment on Short, he is never dragging us over the line in a game sheesh Brandon Ellis or Short very similar and personally can take em or leave em.

Tigers’ burning question: Is Liam Baker the most important player on their list?

Staring down a 35-point deficit to Geelong last weekend, coach Damien Hardwick turned to Liam Baker. And what he got was an outstanding contested effort through the middle to spark the Tigers back into action. Baker, who is out of contract at season’s end and drawing interest from West Coast given his WA roots, was near best-on-ground in the thrilling loss to Geelong – racking up nine coaches’ votes for his efforts. Richmond great Matthew Richardson was full of praise for Baker post-match. “His past month has been as good as anyone’s,” Richardson said. “You don’t judge it just on numbers; you judge it on impact. He’s not getting 40 touches like a Clayton Oliver – and that’s nothing against Clayton, he’s probably the best midfielder in the comp – but Baker’s having impact in games … Baker showed on the weekend how good he can be in (the middle).” With Trent Cotchin and now Dion Prestia both missing from Richmond’s engine room, Baker will again be the man Hardwick turns to.
