Name a Worse Loss...
« on: July 09, 2022, 07:48:52 PM »
I actually can't think of one.

Last year Eagles was bad and ended out season.

I recall a game against the Suns at the dome too that was awful but can't think of a worse one. Honestly maybe the Karmichael Hunt goal after the siren. Really stings.

Have to go back to the dreaded 1987 season where we got run over three times in the first five rounds  :P. The worst of those being up by 45 points early last qtr out at Waverley and then watching the Pies kick the last 9 goals to pinch it. The other two were the Eagles in their debut game also kicking 9 in the last after we lead by 30 and the Swans coming from 26 point down in the last quarter.

Our throwaway losses to Carlton, St Kilda, Sydney and now Gold Coast this year are all eerily similar. We've too many times struggled to run out games after half-time.

Karmichael Hunt got to be the worst surely........

We did look tired but why did we keep playing on so quick in last 5 mins.

Silly

And again we had a short forward line like against the swans and we went away from the chaos ball too often and kicked long only to get outmarked.

Could name at least 10 separate dumb moments in the last 10 minutes that cost us the game. It seems our footy IQ reverts to zero as we are put under pressure.

There have been heaps of worse losses than this one. The circumstances are disappointing, but to me it is much more disappointing to lose a game by 6 goals (eg St Kilda tonight) when you are at home then lose after the siren when you are away and missing a whole host of stars. Not that this doesn't hurt.

I actually can't think of one.

There have been worse losses, but embarrassing losses, this is most embarrassing loss I've ever seen.

The brainfades, the mistakes, the ill discipline.... we were 40, should have been 60, up and in absolute control. The Suns were playing terribly, then, like Sydney, a 50 to give a certain goal (thanks Rioli) against the run of play and us missing some sitters, we let them have a sniff.

The Short 50, the Short panic in the last few minutes, the Castagna miss, Aarts miss, Grimes push in the back and Grimes dropping a sitter, embarrassing.
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do

You’d think with 2-3 premierships under most of these players belts that we would be more composed in tight games but no even the best of our players become panic merchants.

There have been worse losses but I've never been as embarrassed after a loss than tonight

You’ve been watching Richmond a long time WP, surely most embarrassing loss is anger from just having seen it. Giving up a 40 point lead is disgusting but plays to our form this season. Just off the top of my head, any of the 3 elimination finals losses, the Geelong loss where we gave up 150+, the Gold Coast loss where he lost to a horrible team with a goal from Karmichael hunt of all people after the siren. And that’s just from the 2010s not even going back to the dreaded 90s and 00s where you could probably find a dozen more.

Correct, I was embarrassed because I was so very angry.

But for me the worse looses are the ones that leave me gutted, shattered. Last night didn't do that just left so bloody angry

Worse loss of the top of my head? 2 stand out. The Tom Hafey Tribute match and round 22 game against Melb under Gieschen that would have got us finals. Gave up without a yelp
