WHO WILL WIN AND WHY? THE PREDICTIONS AND TIPS FOR ROUND 18

Alex Zaia
SEN
14 July 2018

North Melbourne v Richmond

It’s been a tumultuous week for North Melbourne.

Following last week’s narrow loss to Collingwood – their 14th straight defeat – the club parted company with senior coach David Noble on Tuesday.

The Kangaroos lost patience with Noble, who won just five of 38 games at the helm, leaving the 1-15 Roos rooted to the bottom of the ladder.

North Melbourne’s VFL coach Leigh Adams will act as caretaker for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Adams’ first game in charge will be against Richmond at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

The Tigers are coming off an after-the-siren loss to Gold Coast after leading by as much as 40 points in the third quarter.

While the defeat could prove costly, Richmond is still clinging onto eighth spot after teams around them slipped up.

Their finals destiny remains in their own hands.

The last time the Kangaroos changed coaches mid-season was in 2019 when Rhyce Shaw replaced Brad Scott on an interim basis.

In a quirky stat, Shaw’s first game as caretaker was against the Tigers, guiding the Roos to a 37-point win at Marvel Stadium, the same venue where this weekend’s match will take place.

However, it’s unlikely that history will repeat itself on this occasion.

Tip: Richmond by 40 points.

Barrett's confident we'll win tomorrow and are still a chance for the flag.

IF ...
Lynch is a big out ...

THEN ...
Cotchin and Balta are big ins. Tigers won't be losing to North, and are still in the race for the most unlikely of flags.

Danger game for Tigers as new Roos coach aims to extend spooky post-sacking record

The Tigers (9-7, 116.4%), who sit just inside the eight and must keep winning to retain its spot, will know the dangers of a team playing under an interim coach mid-season for the first time, with four of the past five interim coaches winning on debut. They were Mark McVeigh (GWS Giants), Rhyce Shaw (North Melbourne), David Teague (Carlton) and Brett Ratten (St Kilda.

THE CERTAINTIES FOR THE REST OF ROUND 18

Lachlan Geleit
SEN
16 July 2022

North Melbourne v Richmond

Davies-Uniacke to have 25+ disposals

North Melbourne midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke has had perhaps the two best weeks of his career in the last fortnight, with huge games against the Cats and Magpies respectively.

The young star backed up his 35-disposal game away in Geelong in Round 16 with a best-afield 33-disposal, 12-clearance outing against Collingwood at the MCG.

Considering his form-line and Richmond’s lack of midfield depth, expect Davies-Uniacke to get his hands on the footy plenty of times on the fast deck of Marvel Stadium.

Vlaustin to have 20+ disposals

Richmond defender Nick Vlaustin will be keen to make amends after missing last week’s agonising loss to the Suns with suspension.

Returning this week, the 28-year-old will have a point to prove and he’ll be glad to come up against a side he has a great recent record against.

Last time out against North Melbourne, the reliable backman had 30 disposals, 14 marks and six score involvements in his best in one of the best individual performances of his career.

Expect the leader to show why he’s so critical to this Richmond side on Saturday afternoon.

Oh no, it's Dwayne 'OH BABY!' Russell commentating. Now my enjoyment of the game is capped from the start.

Maybe mute with a radio broadcast on.

Nice to see we've learned from our mistakes: set shot miss from 20m out, slight angle.
