I don't know if footy is more of a pressure cooker these days (so that coaches would like to move on more often) but I always hoped after the flags that Hardwick would be our Sheedy or Sir Alex--he would build another flag team, maybe another two. After the workplace infidelity I think it would be best if he stepped aside, however. I've not liked his cest la vie vibes in the media (think AFL 360) about him moving on and Dustin moving on etc. It gives the air of someone satisfied with what they've already done and not hungry for more. I think it might be for the best to let him go and sell medical marijuana with his mate as he seems to have one or both eyes on other things now that he's "successful''--young women, big expensive houses, overseas expeditions--he seems to have become one of these self-actualizing, self-improving individuals who are all about how brilliant they can make every facet of their lives and personalities. I think these people eventually get high on their own farts and become useless to everybody except themselves. They forget that they were uncomplicated back pocket plumbers who grinded and suffered for success.

In short, yeah, I think he should move on and we get the next Craig McRae in. I have a feeling Dimma is self-satisfied--and done.

I don’t agree but like the players think he’s had a poor couple of months. Loved his comments this week - back him and players to make a statement.

I can conceive of a situation where Dimma walks at the end of this season. If we peter out and miss finals like last year, it wouldn't stretch credulity for him to say "That's it" and move at the end of this year, especially when there are potentially a few clubs looking for a new coach: GWS, Port, maybe Essendon would move if he became available. All relatively attractive propositions for him.

If that happened I could also see Clarkson finding us attractive. Big club, plenty of support, a list in transition but not necessarily a bottom-out rebuild.

Kane Cornes urges Richmond to consider Damien Hardwick succession plan

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes believes Richmond should discuss a potential succession plan involving Damien Hardwick, saying the three-time premiership-winning coach would be an ideal fit at his old club.

After winning three premierships in four seasons, Hardwick and the Tigers have found success harder to come by over the last two seasons, and are currently in danger of missing the finals for a second straight year.

Cornes questioned whether Hardwick's fiery verbal exchange with a player during Richmond's VFL clash at the weekend was evidence that the club needed to "freshen up" in the coaching department.

"There's no doubt he's been frustrated," he told Nine's Footy Classified.

"Thirteen years is a long time at Richmond. It would take a brave club to want to freshen up, but all eyes will be on the Tigers to see how they can.

"I think you'd be incredibly brave to move on from a triple-premiership coach that's in contract, (but) you would've never thought (Alastair) Clarkson's time (at Hawthorn) would have been up.

"I'm not suggesting that's at the end of this year, but I think it's a conversation that is worth having. It's a discussion worth having and (putting) a succession plan in place is worth doing."

Matthew Lloyd, Hardwick's teammate at Essendon, hit back at suggestions that Hardwick seemed to be tiring of his role at Richmond, saying the VFL incident was an example of him being a fierce defender of his players, as he has shown over the years.

"(Hawthorn) had Sam Mitchell waiting in the wings for Alastair Clarkson. I don't think there's anybody out there," he said.

"I think the only way Damien would leave is if he's had enough, but he still seems very hungry to be coaching at Richmond in the next phase."

While admitting "a number of clubs" would be keen on acquiring Hardwick's services, Cornes suggested Port would be a good fit, particularly with senior coach Ken Hinkley's future uncertain.

"I think there would be a number of clubs lining up to get Damien Hardwick, the most successful current coach," he said.

"It's just if he would be after a fresh challenge. He'd be perfectly suited at Port Adelaide, whether that is now for Ken Hinkley or not, but they'd have him in the back of their mind."

Hardwick has been at the helm at Richmond since 2010 and is contracted through to the end of the 2024 season after signing a three-year extension last year.

Given Cornes's past comments regarding Hardwick I believe Cornes's comments are driven by an improper motive.

So Cornes thinks that Hardwick will move on one day, not this off-season, but one day.  He says that a triple premiership coach is hard to move on, but one day it will happen.  Then he thinks his own ex-club is a viable alternative to Richmond?
So, in short, Cornes thinks that Hardwick wont coach Richmond forever after & has decided to write an article telling us that? 
So Hardwick wont be coaching Richmond when he turns 95 then?

Our midfield ball movement in transition is falling down due to Lambert not playing and Shedda being a yard slower.
It killed us on the weekend, particularly in that second quarter - we could’ve been 4 or 5 goals further in front.
We need to work out who on our list can reinstate that ball movement more cleanly, more often and whether we have the talent to do it by hand or by foot.

The gameplan is good, it’s talent to execute it which is where we are seeing the breakdown (kikcing for goal would also help  ).

I've been on fench a bit with Damien, basically ever since the Mrs Hardwick debacle.

After seeing Lambert speech and seeing how he spoke of Dimma and how Dimma reacted. I'm more confident in Dimma and his relationship with players. I think he has won the right to at least see a new rebuild if he chooses to.

The other side of the coin as well. Name anyone in the business that is available who would be an improvement on Dimmas coaching credentials. Apart from Clarkson there is nobody who is a clear improvement.
