Wish this wasn't my first post - hello all.

I'm just very glad that we have young Beaker (OK, Noah C. ;)), and I've been waiting to see Sonsie and so far he's held his own. Trying to look at posititives...

Seriously, why have we become so sloppy of late?

Well it's been a good 12-15 months really

Welcome to OER. And yes you're right Sonsie and Cumberland are highlights. Need to play every game possible.

I’m not as critical of the list. It’s attitude.

We were the best team in terms of pressure and tackling getting into the heads of the opposition by the second quarter.

We’ve never had a super talented team. Look at our premiership stars ie. Castagna, Caddy, Townsend, Ellis, McIntosh etc. some players better than others and solid contributors in a well oiled machine of pressure and forward movement and a defence that was stable and consistent.

First of all we have let the defence be a fluid concept instead of making it an absolute consistent solution.

Secondly we have become the worst tackling team in league and our pressure has suffered.
We haven’t recovered from the stand rule either.
I may be wrong but It seems our youngsters aren’t being taught the pressure that made us successful.

Thirdly, our aging stars are playing like they are old. It was bound to happen but we would’ve thought we might have got some players in to replace them. We have still have some good players like Bolton Baker Gibcus  so our recruiting is ok.

Development has been the big issue for me.  We haven’t invested in the future and it has shown in the development of players. Covid-19 hasn’t helped either. But we have used the soft cap as an excuse despite other clubs proving that is not a good excuse  in reality.
The club that keeps giving.

Our defence is uncompetitive. It’s not just the total scores we give up but the frequency at which we concede per inside 50 doesn’t set the foundation to win many games. Easily the worst performing of the 3 lines we have and yet some want to take every chance they can get to throw teague under the bus.

Our defence is under siege because our midfield and forward line don't do there job ball is coming in so easy Blind Freddy can see that.

You guys talking about trading Bolton like he is in his late 20s.

Exactly what is the purpose of trading one of the genuine gun young players we have? Even if we get 2 first rounders, what is the actual likelihood we get a player as good as Bolton with one of those picks. Why stop at Bolton, let’s trade baker and balta while we’re at it.

I don't think Bolton is the type of player that will play 250+ games. I don't think he gets much better and his currency is at the highest it can get  yet I can see him falling away and being non AFL standard before 30. I think the difference from his best and worst is far too big. I think he is the type of player that is cream on top and the momentvwr have no foundation.

Give me a pick in top 8 and pick in top 20 for him and we combine that to have another tilt in a few years.

He's an enormous talent Shai but he's value is wasted on us now. Where as equivalent value in draft picks can benefit us when we are competitive.

But your thought about him not getting to 250 games and being non-AFL standard before 30 isn’t actually based on any evidence and neither is him not getting any better. Since he broke into the side he’s barely missed a game and he has shown improvement every season, likely to be rewarded with his first all Australian blazer this season.

Then we go with the picks again. Let’s take out the best case of drafting 2 absolute guns and the worst case of drafting 2 absolute duds. are you sure we can get a player with one of those 2 picks who are better than Bolton? maybe we can get one of equal quality but it will take them 3-4 years to truly hit their stride and what happens to our team in the mean time?

While I personally wouldn’t do it, I can atleast see the logic of trading dusty. 30+, best days behind him, injury prone the last couple of seasons and clears significant salary cap space. None of those are the case with Bolton.

Grimes hammy. These soft tissue injuries are getting bad, whether they’re due to age or not is another thing

I’d agree somewhat with our midfield isn’t making it easy on our defenders but can you honestly tell me that our midfield is to blame for the 1v1 contests we constantly lose, the enormous amounts of space that the defenders give their direct opponent and the frequency which we concede per entry which I’m sure is one of the worst in the league.

Yet we we're giving games to George and Aarts and he was tearing it up all because of this lack of pressure bs.

Well, you never know. It's only five goals. If they could just find one on this foray forward and maybe just squeeze another, you just never know.

Big second half needed. Scoreboard pressure.

Why would Lynch a highly paid goal kicker pass it of to Cotchin who never kicks goals. I am speechless
