Brisbane focused on the Tigers, not losing streak, ahead of blockbuster clash

Chris Fagan's Brisbane Lions are "embracing the fact" they haven't won at the MCG since 2014, but aren't letting it consume their focus ahead of a Friday night clash against the Richmond Tigers.

"I understand it's about setting up the story, so the story on Monday if the Lions win will be 'you can win the flag because you won at the MCG' and if we lose 'you can't win the flag because you can't win at the MCG'," Fagan said.

Yet, the always frank Fagan was careful not to overplay the impact of the ground.

"The truth is, we're not playing the MCG, we're playing Richmond," he reflected.

Sitting seven places below the third-placed Lions and fresh off two losses and a debilitating draw, the Tigers' quest to return to the Finals is faltering.

This offered scant comfort for Fagan however, as he strives to breach the final frontier of a grand final. Having led his team to two semi-finals and one preliminary in the last three years, he was very aware of the threat Richmond posed.

"Not so long before they had this run of losses, everyone was saying 'they're the team to beat'" Fagan recounted.

"And that's the team we expect to play at the weekend. They're desperate to make finals, we're desperate to try and finish top-four, there's a lot at stake."

THE CERTAINTIES FOR ROUND 20

Seb Mottram
SEN
30 July 2022

Richmond v Brisbane

Edwards to kick a goal

Few players have risen to the occasion like Shane Edwards.

The 33-year-old is playing his 300th game against Brisbane and will look to live up to his standards of his last 16 years at the top level.

He’s gone goalless in his last two games but had hit the scoreboard in six of the previous seven games. Given the role he plays, you can bet his teammates will be looking to get him the footy and celebrate the big moment.

Go on Shedda, get it done!

Brisbane to kick 80+ points

Their woes at the MCG have been well noted, but the Lions should kick at least 80 points against Richmond on recent form.

Chris Fagan boasts the league’s best offence, with his side finding more avenues to goal than most throughout 2022.

Brisbane have lost their last 10 at the ‘G and were wiped out by the Demons at this ground in Round 15. As is usually the case, it’s likely not all to do with the ground, yet it does cause some concerns.

However, they won’t get a better chance to put their hoodoo behind them. Richmond have allowed other teams to score quickly in 2022, as Fagan will know.

If Brisbane are genuine contenders, they’ll be able to kick at least 12 goals and get past 80 points on Sunday.

Results tonight worked well for us. Now up to us to finally get our collective heads into gear and just get a win tomorrow no matter how.

Lol we’ve been saying this for 6 weeks or something now. I’ve stopped getting excited when results go our way because we’ve never once taken advantage of it. Anyway let’s hope tomorrow is different.

It's astonishing how many chances we're getting. Lots of reasons to come out fired up but I'll believe it when I see it now.

Well obviously we needed saints to lose !
I don’t think we deserve to make finals but we may stumble in there and perhaps even make a decent run if we can get healthy and have a good crack. But definitely don’t deserve it and I don’t think it will do anything to help our future. It’s all about playing the kids and bringing in talent now for mine

ARRIVE EARLY
In 2022, the process for entry into the MCG will take longer than usual. To ensure you are inside the MCG in time for the match start, arrive early and leave plenty of time for the entry process.

Download your ticket prior to your arrival at the MCG. To gain entry into the match, scan your digital ticket at the turnstiles.

thanks for that info MT. Might see if we can get seats near the cheer squad as Mini-me still recovering from ankle reconstruction and finds stairs a bit of a hassle

Must win today. Win and finals is a possibility. And anything can happen over those 4 weeks.

Can we swap Matt Clarke for the head of recruiting at the Koala Bears?  Their kids are far more talented than ours
