Close Losses

I will always adore Dimma

When he joined and we were getting pumped by 60+ points he had a great quote. "When you lose by 10 goals it's a player issue, when you lose by 10 points it's generally a coaching issue". And made the point we were in list building stage.

This year we have lost so many close games. Richmond killing Richmond. But some odd situations like seeing Miller in the ruck at the end and Nank roving around the boundary line in F50.

With so many close losses think the footy department need to take some responsibility with the disappointment of the season. Whether it's team selection, conditioning, development and role clarity. It's been an awful trend.

Personally would love Truck back , our backline has leaked too much and great to see the back of selfish GWS coach.

Rough. Both teams were magnificent tonight.

Definitely some of our losses this year were partly due to poor coaching. Not tonight.

This is it.

Moments like the Gibcus stuff up and MRJs late turnover will hopefully become less frequent and win us these games.

Most of our close losses have been due to brainfades and missed gettable chances in front of the sticks.

Swans - couldn't kick straight. 3.6 to 6.0 in the last. Lose by 3 pts.
Suns - well I had a whole thread on the dumb stuff we did that night topped off by George's infamous brainfade.
Norf - disrespect, again crap goalkicking 11.22 + Aarts' brainfade .... say no more.
Freo - Balta brainfade then Cumberland playing on right on the siren.
Elim vs Bris - missed gettable shots for the sealer in last 5 mins plus the 'you wouldn't see that in Auskick' disaster in the Lions goalsquare.

Don't do the basic U10s stuff right then that's on the players. All those things should be instinctively in our players' heads from a young age so they do them correctly automatically without thinking. Not panic and crack under game pressure :facepalm.

I’m glad season is over in a way as I think this club was going to send me to an early grave with these losses

Sorry Owl if it came across that I was bagging the cubs.

Most of the brainfades have been made by our senior premiership players who should know better. That Auskick stuff up with a minute to go was between Nank, Balta and Jack in the Lions' goalsquare with Tarrant in the vicinity too. The first three collided with each other in the air and Balta only got a little soft fist that went straight down to Daniher. FFS, simple schoolboy stuff! :banghead

That loss was our own doing and most disappointing thing is senior players let us down no composure at times or smarts trend all year. We weren't clean enough all game. Not good enough.

Lynch should have nailed that goal.
3 experience heads bunched together we're was the communication.

Most disappointing fact it's from 3 time premiership players.

MT making excellent points and I agree totally.  :thumbsup

This season has been difficult to watch at times mostly with the lack of pressure and missed tackles doing our heads in.

But I want to make a point about our fumbling too.
Fumble in the modern game and it’s too late.

I haven’t seen fumbling as bad like this seasons fumbling and that’s from quality players too. I’m not talking about guys like Ross or Gibcus or Castagna. I’m talking about players like Grimes, Bolton, Nank, Edwards, Broad, Baker, Short etc.

I think that’s another major concerning thing we should be looking to rectify next season.

The club that keeps giving.
