So, for the third time in 4 seasons we only play the other Big 4 clubs once and two of those are away games .

Still a joke we have to play a home game at Marvel. Makes no sense either when Carlton get to play the Suns at the 'G.

Apart from that, if we're good enough and don't throw away games late like this year, it's a decent draw.

Carlton leads the competition with the most Thursday-Friday slots, but Brisbane's push up the pecking order should be no surprise as the premiership contenders are one of the most attractive teams to watch, finishing in the top three for scoring in each of the past four seasons.

The Blues have seven games in the prime slots, cashing in on a much-improved 2022, starting with its regular season-opener against Richmond in round one, followed by hosting premier Geelong at the MCG to open round two.

The Cats have five Thursday or Friday night games, while Richmond, Melbourne, Sydney and Port Adelaide have four apiece.

Powerhouses Essendon and Hawthorn, along with Greater Western Sydney are the only clubs without a prime timeslot in the first 15 rounds.

Carlton v Richmond in the season-opener

Could the Blues do it again? The Michael Voss era kicked off with a bang last season when Carlton managed to get the chocolates against Richmond in their opening-round fixture – the first time the Blues had claimed a round one win over the Tigers since 2012. Next season's round one bout will see the Tigers’ boom recruits – Jacob Hopper and Tim Taranto – unveiled, with the former GWS duo's arrival adding extra intrigue to the season-opener.

Dreamtime at the 'G

The annual Dreamtime at the 'G match will again be one of the highlights of Sir Doug Nicholls Round. Richmond has dominated Essendon in the annual clash, winning the past eight editions, while the Tigers have also won the previous 13 meetings between the clubs. The Bombers have a point to prove under a new coach – and after a tumultuous off-season – while Richmond is chasing another flag.

Taranto and Hopper face the old foe

Richmond landed itself two of GWS's top-shelf players in the off-season, and it's set to be a fascinating encounter with Jacob Hopper and Tim Taranto are pitted against their former teammates in round 12. While the Giants weren't overly active themselves in the trade period, they did bring in a bevy of talent in this year's NAB AFL Draft to offset their star departures. It's just another chapter in the coloured, albeit short, history of these two sides, which includes Richmond's 2019 Grand Final mauling of the Giants.

I have no issue with the travel TBH

What I have an issue with is it is still a floating fixture

9 rounds are floating

Of those 9 rounds we have 3 interstate trips. For those of us who like going interstate we cannot plan anything. 

We can't book flights, accommodation or apply for leave

Just another great example of the AFL’S total lack of respect; actually let's call it what it is total disdain for fans.

It's only one more interstate trip than what we usually have. It wouldn't surprise me if a vet or two like Cotch is rested for one of games when we have back-to-back interstate trips.

Of the non-SA clubs, we've played the most games at Adelaide Oval with 17 for 7 wins and 10 losses.

Compare that to Carlton who have only played there 6 times, Collingwood 9 times and Essendon 11.

It's only one more interstate trip than what we usually have. It wouldn't surprise me if a vet or two like Cotch is rested for one of games when we have back-to-back interstate trips.

We travel as much as the sides like the Bulldogs (who have 6 interstate games) and the Dees who sell games to play away.
Even the Hawks and Roos - if you remove their Tassie games - only have 5 and 4 genuine interstate games.
We should be capped at 6 interstate games and to balance the draw those extra games should be given to the Hawks, Doggies, Norf and the Dees who sell their soul to play away. It’s another “soft bias” that undermines the bigger clubs who don’t need to drop their metaphorical pants by selling home games and get an underlying hit by being “equalised” with more travel to balance the draw.
