« on: October 19, 2022, 08:05:04 PM »
Next up is Dow.

Dow in his third year played in 6 games to take his career tally to 13. He played five straight games between rounds 2 and 6 before a back-to-back corked thigh in the same spot lost him his place in the side. Dow only returned for a single match in Round 17 in our two-point loss to the Suns before being dropped to the ressies for the remainder of the year.

Season Highlights
* 23 disposals (8 kicks, 15 hballs), 2 marks and 5 tackles in the R3 33pt-loss to St Kilda at Marvel Stadium (3 Apr 2022)
* 15 disposals (7 kicks, 8 hballs), 2 marks, 7 tackles and a goal in the R4 38pt-win over the W.Bulldogs at the MCG (9 Apr 2022)

Thinking a 4. Maybe being a bit harsh on a kid in only his third season but expected him to step it up a level this year and don’t think he did. Thought he was the most promising of our young midfielders but failed to impose himself on the rare games he did play. Given his traits I can really only see him playing as an inside midfielder so opportunities are going to be even harder to come by next season.

Gave him a 3

First couple of AFL games were good and I was hopeful he'd take the next step

But I ended up being disappointed

A couple of bad habits crept in around attacking contests and being prepared to put his body on the line. Suns game was a great example of standing back and watching

So I'm not surprised he ended up spending most of the season running around in the VFL

Wouldn't have been at shocked if he had been traded but not surprised he wasn't (if that makes sense)

Honestly thought he played more games than that. Not overly impressed for the same reasons WP gave

Reckon he has a season to turn it around. That does not neccesarily mean in the seniors.
Entering yr 4 and with tough opposition to even get a midfield gig he needs to regularly start dominating in the magoos. We don't have a lot of mids in the two's.
As a point of difference id like them to see how he goes across hb.

He’s one that I don’t think we’ve got to the bottom of his potential. Was strong vs Blues then got injured? before falling away. There’s a few in this camp - HRS, Ross, Cumberland along with the draft class of 2021 who we are obligated to develop. I loved Dimma’s speech about “take the stairs” but I’d ask him to “have that extra coffee” and get this crop to surprise us and put real pressure on our 16-23 group of players because that pressure will bring us another flag and cement him as an afl immortal.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

I gave him more than average :)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomson_Dow - not a bad article about Thomson. But there are only dry facts here, there will be no art story :)

Agree.

2023 is potentially his last for us.

I think he can play the game.

I would keep him beyond 2023 unless Sonsie, Ross and some else go up a level or two.
