Tigers playing for their careers in 2023

As Richmond reshapes its list for its next premiership tilt, several flag heroes are coming towards the end of contracts. How many will be part of the next Punt Road glory?

Out of contract in 2023:

Senior list: Balta, Bolton, Broad, Castagna, Cotchin, Dow, Graham*, Grimes, Mansell, McIntosh, Nankervis, Pickett, Ralphsmith, Riewoldt, Tarrant

Rookie list: Nyuon, Bauer, Colina.

* extra-year trigger.

Going by the senior list I'd say only 4

Dow, Ralphsmith, Mansell, Castagna

The others will either retire = Jack, Cotch possibly Tarrant or get offered new deals based on form and/or list needs

I know it frustrates people but the Club clearly values certain players within the "4 walls of the Club" more than members and fans do ;D

Agree WP.

Grimesy could be another vet who could retire next year. Depends how bad that hammy was and how well he has recovered from it.

I don’t think next season is Hugo’s last. Whether that’s with us or not I think he’ll be contracted in 2024.

 I was only talking about careers at Richmond

Think the 4 I mentioned are all a good chance to get contracts elsewhere

Yup gotcha.

I’d say if mansell and Dow aren’t offered new contracts by us it probably means they played little to no games at AFL level. If that’s the case I can’t see either of them being picked up by other clubs.

So in terms of playing for their ‘AFL lives’ I’d say those 2 and probably Biggy too.
