Graham and Miller hungry in defense for Tigers

Two players that were a shining light in the defensive end was Rebecca Miller and Libby Graham. Whilst it was not the result the Tigers wanted, both competed hard, and caused disruptions for the Lions forwards.

Tigers last quarter positive

One positive the Tigers can take away from this game was the last quarter. They had the ability to be more aggressive and take the game on, which combined with some brilliance up forward from Katie Brennan saw the side really lift in the last.

I hadn't seen the footage and assumed the umpire missed the incident and made the call based on the aftermath, however the stuffing stuffwit had constant visage of the incident, so what the hell did he make his call based on?

He based it on having no idea of the rules

Which is how they operate in the AFLW

The standard of umpiring in the AFLW is an embarrassment to the AFL and the game.  It's disgusting how we are always on the wrong end of it also.

The standard of umpiring in the AFLW is an embarrassment to the AFL and the game.

I've been saying this for multiple seasons now.

Its biggest problem is that season on season it gets worse. I believe that the standard of umpiring contributes considerably to the standard of the overall competition. Comp is going to struggle to improve when the umpiring is at under 15's level (and that's probably being generous)

Ferguson said a key takeaway from the match was that the Tigers need to "be more aggressive in what we do".

"We showed in the last quarter and early when we put a bit more speed on the ball and backed our game and were a bit more aggressive," he said.

"In the second quarter we went a bit safe.

"(We need to) make sure we don't go into our shells.

Ferguson lauded defender's Libby Graham's work under pressure.

"Her and Bec Miller got better as the game wore on, under a lot of heat and a lot of balls coming in, they did a pretty good job," Ferguson said.

"That's their strength, they're full of character and compete really hard."

AFLW star’s VERY sneaky way of getting a free kick in crucial match sees her accused of 'elite s**thousery' by astonished footy fans

There was controversy when a Lions player earned a 50m kick and a goal.
Fans are divided, with some applauding the play and others slamming it.

...

While Conway was blasted by many for appearing to manipulate the umpires to earn the call, she was actually correct in her actions.

Under the rules, Sheerin should have passed or handed the ball to Svarc - who had earned the free kick.

Because she handed the ball to Conway instead, the 50 metre decision was correct.

'So many people not understanding the rules too, saying the umpire fell for it. Fell for what? The Richmond player failed their responsibility to give the ball to the right person. Clear 50m penalty whether Sophie let the ball drop or called for it or not,' one fan explained.

'Regardless of how you feel, the rule is that the ball must be given straight back to the player that has the free kick. Not via someone else. Directly! It's hardly confusing,' posted another.

Other fans felt that the punishment did not fit the crime.

'Just out of interest, because I'm a relatively recent AFL fan, what's the purpose of the rule? It seems really daft to me - as long as the ball goes back to the right team without delay, a 50m penalty seems ridiculously harsh,' one fan posted.
