Club Corner - May 29
« on: May 29, 2006, 11:43:23 PM »
Paul Armstrong

* Spoke about Richo needing a pin in his arm and will miss at least 2 weeks. Big Fella is frustrated about it because otherwise he is fit.

* Lids 1 week probably but hasn't been ruled out just in case he comes up.

* Coburg Ressies... Mentioned Gas. Chaff needs some consistency as he's played 3 games but 2 were at ressies level. Moore, Casserly both played the first half. Schulz and Roach full games.

* Possibly inclusions this week from Staff, Jackson, White, Rodan, Hughes + those who played on Sunday.

* Hughes, Staff, Jackson main ones in contention. Got the impression from Armstrong that Staff might come in given he kicked 4 the previous week for Coburg.

* We're a settled young group. Haven't got down over the big losses and just assessed the losses. Haven't gone over the top over the wins. To play finals we need to win more games than we lose due to our poor percentage.

* Before Crows we only had beaten sides below us. Now knocked off two sides that were above us.

* Thursday off to Perth. Training Friday at Subi. Red eye flight Sat. Night home. Recovery Sunday in Melbourne.

* Enjoyed both styles of play the last two weeks as we won. The main thing is we got the result.

* We've won 3 of the 4 games the experts have all gone against us. Comes about from them thinking about our history.

* We felt if we could weather the storm early from Geelong we culd settle into our game and then put doubts in the Cats' minds.

* Terry has been at him to either assist or score more goals himself.

* Praised the young guys like Tambling. Players starting to find their feet and Wallace gives them confidence to play their natural game.

* Wallace mentioned "making history" through the week as well as just prior to the game on the whiteboard. Challenged the guys - did they fear it or did they see it as a opportunity and a chance to make history?!

* Not relying on Richo to kick most of our goals is a positive.

* About his head clash - no major hiccups like Kosi. Just the standard things like having trouble concentrating and reading. The helmet didn't feel like it was protecting him. More a hinderance as it was tight and affected his peripheral vision.

* Just trying to do his bit and contribute each week. If you do that you don't have to worry about selection.

* Asked about September - paying group aiming to playing finals. Supporters should expect us to compete each week. If we can do that then we'll win more than we'll lose. If we can do that and implement Terry's gameplan then we can play finals. If we don't make it then we'll just saddle up for next year and go again.

* We will be heading over to Freo with confidence even if we go into the game underdogs.

* TJ was also interviewed. Mentioned he always had alot of time for Wallace. Terry came to Richmond without a preseason because Hawthorn wouldn't allow him to do one with us. At the end of the year we had to choose between Terry and Rioli and because Magic was a Richmond champion he stayed and Terry was allowed to go to the Bullies.

* TJ was also asked about ripping his hair out in the coaches box lol. He said he always wore his heart on his sleeve and that was honestly how he felt.

* Lastly, Coburg play the Casey Scorpions (Saints affiliate), Sunday, 2pm at Home (Coburg City Oval).

He wouldn't have made any difference back then. We were wooden spooners and flat broke.

Wallace said one of the main reasons he came back was because he had unfinished business at Richmond so maybe in a bizarre way it has worked to our favour albeit 20 years later.

IIRC didn't Rioli go back to WA after 87 anyway  ???.
