Quinton Narkle is another play Van Der Wielen represents and is chasing an AFL lifeline at Richmond.

The former Cat has improved his shape this pre-season and his manager believes it should hold the 25-year-old in good stead.

“Quinton has done everything that’s been asked of him. The only knock that Quinton has ever had on him was his transitional running and things like that, he’s improved that in the off-season, he’s dropped eight kilograms,” Van Der Wielen explained.

Kudos to Narkle for getting fit enough for AFL level and leaving it all on the training track and demonstrating his emerging maturity by putting himself forward at the Tigers, however,

For structure and potential it just has to be Bradtke and no 2nd class key position retreads from other clubs.

If Bradtke has AFL attributes and needs a year in the Richmond system then pick him and sign him.

Former Geelong player Quinton Narkle had also been training with the Club throughout the SSP, with the midfielder unlucky to not also receive a list spot.

“Quinton came back from the Christmas break in career-best condition and impressed us with his character and commitment to our program,” Richmond National Recruiting Manager Matt Clarke said.

“Unfortunately we did not have two spots available, so we needed to make a very hard decision. He couldn't have done any more during his time training at the Club."

Narkle is expected to take some time to consider a number of state league offers from across the country before making a decision on his next move, with Richmond's VFL program one option he might consider.

I hope Narkle stays and plays in the 2’s. He put the work in and deserves a crack if an opportunity presents itself , if he can keep it together

We've picked someone up in every midseason draft so far (Bauer, Parker, Pickett). So Narkle playing for our VFL side and learning the way we play until the MSD wouldn't be a bad option for him.

Sounds like he was training to play at half-back anyway.

Perth chase former Geelong midfielder Quinton Narkle as Essendon, Richmond VFL also in the hunt

Perth are competing against two VFL sides for the signature of former Geelong midfielder Quinton Narkle after he did not get a spot on Richmond’s list.

Narkle, 25, trained with the Tigers over the summer but was overlooked in favour of country forward Kaelan Bradtke, who was also set to play for Perth if he did not get a gig in the AFL.

The AFL’s Supplementary Selection Period closed on Wednesday, meaning Narkle must now wait until the mid-season draft to add to his 41 games for the Cats.

The West Australian understands both Richmond and Essendon’s VFL sides want Narkle to play for them this season, with the midfielder weighing up his future based on his family.

“Quinton came back from the Christmas break in career-best condition and impressed us with his character and commitment to our program,” Richmond national recruiting manager Matt Clarke said.

“Unfortunately we did not have two spots available, so we needed to make a very hard decision. He couldn’t have done any more during his time training at the club.”

Meanwhile, troubled former AFL star Sydney Stack is committed to playing for the Demons, having hit the track in their past eight sessions.

Stack, 22, is set to be an important part of the Demons’ midfielder in 2023 as they seek a return to finals under new coach Peter German.

Quinton Narkle has decided to remain in Victoria and play for Essendon’s VFL side.

The Perth Football League product, who was overlooked for an AFL lifeline by Richmond in the recently-concluded Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP), saw the Bombers as the best chance of returning to the top flight.

Essendon kept one spot open ahead of the mid-season rookie draft with 25-year-old Narkle among several contenders.
