If we could fit him under the salary cap absolutely. Bloke is a quality footballer, better than any ruck we've had since Ottens and Gale. Can't see us making a play for him as clubs normally don't play their captain in the 2's....:shh

Re Grundy and salary cap I think Collingwood and Melbourne will be paying a bit of it

Unfortunately I think Melbourne will want Jack Graham in return and we cannot give them that...

Grundy would be a great get.
Clearly better when rucking mostly solo.

Upgrade on Nank for sure.

Assuming Nank is still captain.... :shh

Blasphemous to even suggest such a thing  >:(

Another 3 goals to Riccardi today.

I think we can get him cheap.
The club that keeps giving.

Richmond’s Ivan Soldo will also be a key player in the ruck merry-go-round given his return to the seniors while Toby Nankervis serves his three-week suspension.

-----

Richmond circled Himmelberg, too, with close mates Jacob Hopper and Tim Taranto behind the push to land another Giant at Punt Rd.

But the Giants remain confident they will re-sign the jet swingman on a minimum five-year deal after a move from attack to defence around mid-season.

Callum Twomey in the AFL podcast 'Gettable' mentioned the AFL is negotiating bringing Free Agency forward from eight to six years in exchange for giving clubs more certainty regarding holding onto first round draftees via longer 3-year contracts. That would mean someone like a Ben King would become a FA next year.

There are surely better & cheaper options than Hindenberg. :shh

I don’t know about better, but certainly seems to be cheaper, younger options who have more scope for improvement than a 28 year old himmelberg.

Now to swoop on Jake Riccardi on a rookie contract.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The problem is we do not have the picks to do any trades.
Our only option is a free agent and that means an older player.
It also means we have to pay overs to attract anyone.

The reported deal for Himmelburg of 5 years at $800k per year shows the sort of price we would have to pay.
