Richmond walk that little bit taller when Nankervis runs out with them.

Courtney Wakefield would have been a shoo-in for this had she not retired at the end of last season but, even then, it would have been hard to ignore what Katie Brennan has done for the club. Joining in 2020 as an inaugural player and captain, she led by example through the rocky first years before leading the side to its maiden finals in season seven. Despite having stars on the list, there’s a notable difference in the ferocity of the group when she’s on the field.

Totally agree re the AFLW. Courtney is a massive loss.

On the AFL side I'd lean towards Cotch. Think there were times in 2022 when he dragged us back into the games. On Nank I reckon he showed his best leadership when he was the sole captain. I will confess I hate the co-captain model and I don't reckon it worked for us at all.

However, in answer to the thread. The players all love Liam Baker and what he brings in regards to courage .. how can a fella that was voted by his peers as the AFL’s most courageous, not be the heart and soul player?

When trade period was happening and the negotiating over the GWS players was going on , I think it was Balmy or maybe Hartley who mentioned that Soldo was a required player and one thing that was mentioned was his influence within the playing group. I think Balmy would remember quite well and as he mentioned in his book of what the trading of whale Roberts had on the then tiger playing group

My opinion of heart and soul players at Richmond.

Jack Graham is a club first type of guy and would put himself last for the good of the team.

Liam Baker also and Jack Reiwoldt as he’s matured.

Tough on field , playing with injured shoulder etc , no doubt about that

But simple fact is he was on the way out the door until they hurt his feelings

I remember a certain Tiger superstar visiting the GWS facilities a number of years ago. He's now considered "heart and soul" but back then? Don't think so

Jack Graham is a good footballer and one of the toughest blokes I've seen play for us in the last 25 years. Likable person as well but some of his staunch supporters carry on

I do classify him as a heart and soul type player though. 2019 prelim is the perfect example of that. That doesn’t mean he’s our most talented player or an automatic start in our 22 but he’s a very tough courageous player who will do anything for the team.
