Given the swans will be missing both McCartin brothers as well as both Buddy and Reid, wouldn’t be against lining up smaller for Friday night.

In the fwd line, Jack as FF and Dusty/Cumbo as the CHF. Ryan can rotate through there when given a spell from ruck duties.

In the back line just roll with the same guys in Balta, Young and Grimes.

Would probably include Miller as a utility to just help out on whatever line is needed - ruck, def, fwd.

We lose just Lynchy and look at where it leaves us. What an opportunity this week at least to get games into our younger talls in Ryan ruck, Miller fwd/ruck and say young Bauer high fwd against a team lacking tall defenders.
We complain about a dearth of tall forwards and the lack of games they have yet a genuine opportunity comes to give em a go and no lets play small. Fair dinkum are we that short sighted. It seems there will never be a right time to play some players and stick to our structure while we are at it.

At some stage we just have to play as many kids as we can with enough good players around them they may just surprise people.

Bauer has kicked goals is a reasonable size 192cm a strong mark,  quick on the lead athletic there is nothing to lose by playing him.
Most likely he play against a sydney second stringer who would not normally get a game.
Seems logical to me if they are now lacking size and height in their defensive half exploit it. Most of all at least try and stick to our preffered structure of two tall fwds and a fwd/ruck.

Hear hear clawski.

Would love to see exactly that setup of talls but what's the best we just play a small forward line. They'll come up with something about too many changes to F50

About 60,000 fans will travel across the border from rival states including 20,000 from Victoria with Carlton fans having bought the most tickets of non-SA fans ahead of Collingwood, Geelong and Richmond.

In the Mix: Round 5

Richmond will be forced to make even more changes this weekend after its horror run of injuries continued on Saturday. Jack Riewoldt will be back to lead the forward line in the absence of Tom Lynch, Jack Ross continued his good form in the VFL and could be the man to replace Jack Graham, while Richmond's talls crisis should see Ben Miller return in place of injured co-captain Toby Nankervis. Trent Cotchin, who was the sub against the Bulldogs, could come back into the 22, while Maurice Rioli managed just seven touches in the VFL after being dropped from the senior side. In addition to the absence of Lynch and Nankervis, Robbie Tarrant, Ivan Soldo and rookies Bigoa Nyuon and Kaelan Bradtke are all injured, meaning Damien Hardwick's tall stocks are stretched thin.

Bauer trained with the backs today as did Balta. So, it doesn't look like we're going to try anything new on the key forward front this week.

I don't understand why players are recruited because they excel in a certain position, only for us to then try to turn them into something else - like this backline business with Bauer.

Can somebody more footy savvy explain it to me, please?

He got called out by the coach after the Coburg game about needing to get involved more.  Played behind the ball on Saturday vs the Doggies and was way more involved.  Attacked the ball and delivered well to the forward line.

Could he be a replacement for an aging Grimes and or Broad?

The way he played on Saturday, possibly.  He's actually good 1 on 1 and strong defensively.

Dimma said Samson and Miller are playing ruck (Dimma said 1st ruck after mentioning Miller).

Jack and Cotch in too.

Balta won't play forward. Tried that experiment and we now like him down back.
