Looks familiar? This was only the weekend before. Witherden concussed going back with the flight like Keath yet no MRO, no report, no tribunal & no media outrage  ::).

Just further evidence Lynch's report is nothing but a witch hunt against Lynch and Richmond cheered on by the media :thumbsdown.

Nothing to answer for IMHO.

Does anyway know what is the ruling if he is injured and cops 2 weeks?

2 week suspension when he comes back from injury??

No, it's concurrent, so doesn't really matter.

But it's the principal.

I should add it wouldn't surprise me if they give him 4 weeks knowing full well that it doesn't matter, just to 'take a stand' on concussion etc.

The footage of Witherden the week before is bloody damning and infuriating.

Must have missed where this was sent to the tribunal as "careless, high and severe contact" after leaving Vlastuin knocked out.

Difference is he got to the ball.

Lynch was nowhere near it. Completely out of position.

Fox Footy pundits on Sunday night were split on whether Lynch should be banned.

“I think you‘ve got to work out did he choose to bump at all. I find it really difficult to say he did or didn’t,” dual premiership Kangaroo David King told Fox Footy’s First Crack.

“I‘m not absolutely sure that he decided to take the player … I’m the hardest on it (protecting the head), but I’ve got grey area.”

But dual All-Australian Leigh Montagna said if Lynch escaped suspension, it’d go against the hard stance the MRO and tribunal had taken across the first month of the season.

“I think we‘re seeing some consistency now that if you don’t make a genuine play for the ball, or at least attempt to go for the ball, we are seeing those acts get suspended,” Montagna told Fox Footy’s First Crack.

“I just think for the sake of the game, if he gets off that, I think it‘ll go back to being confusing for everyone.”

I don’t think citing incidents from years prior is relevant here as the change the definitions on the categorising of intent and impact every off season.

The Witherden incident makes this look like a dead set witch hunt.

I hope we challenge it and get him off.

Tom Lynch's Tribunal hearing is now underway.

As expected, the Tigers contest this is a reportable offence under the banner of 'rough conduct'.

This argument will likely centre around whether or not Lynch's action constitutes a bump.

For reference, the two dot points here are where much of the argument will likely focus on.

Tom Lynch is giving evidence.

Tom Lynch: My focus was solely on the football.

Tom Lynch: As I was jumping off my left leg, I realised I'd misjudged the ball flight... I was jumping off my left foot, it was too late to stop.

Tom Lynch: I rotated my body so the contact wasn't coming front on and that he'd hit me on the side to prevent injury. Otherwise it may've opened me up.

Tom Lynch: I've not braced myself or clenched any fist, my hands are open. After the contact, my hands go up in the air. If I was bumping, I'd be driving through.

Richmond: At the point you realised contact was going to be made with Keath, could you have stopped yourself from leaving the ground?

Tom Lynch: No. I could not.

AFL website also doing a live blog:

Tom Lynch case is now underway

Well, we're playing catch-up after finalising the Harry McKay case, but Tom Lynch is giving evidence.

Richmond will argue this was not rough conduct – basically we'll be arguing whether or not this was a bump.

Lynch says his focus was solely on the football.

"At the very last moment … I realised I misjudged the ball flight and ran under the football," he said.

"I was jumping off my left foot and it was too late to stop.

"I rotated my body … if I didn't, I would have had contact through my chest and would have put me in a vulnerable position.

"I'm just protecting myself from incoming impact."
