Will Bolton be in trouble with the MRO?

Shai was stupid giving away 50 but here's the media again trying to rub out another Tiger for weeks ::).

------------------------------------------------------

“HE’LL GET NO BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT”: BOLTON TO FACE MRO WRATH FOR “AWFUL” INCIDENT

Seb Mottram
SEN
15 April 2023

Shai Bolton is set to come under the microscope of the Match Review Officer for a hit on Swan Errol Gulden.

Late in the third term, a quarter where Richmond had surged back into the contest against Sydney on Friday night, Bolton gave away a kicking in danger free kick before throwing Gulden to the ground after a strike to the upper body.

The 20-year-old Sydney midfielder wasn’t injured, but Bolton’s action drew a 50-metre penalty.

It was one of a number of brain fades that Damien Hadwick labelled “incredibly poor” in the post-game, but there are now fears the ramifications could span on for weeks.

Gerard Whateley believes the enigmatic Tiger will be given no benefit of the doubt such was the nature of his action and suggested a two-week suspension was appropriate.

“I just think once you stand there and do that, you’re not beating anything,” Whateley told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“However this is graded is what he’s going to serve. (In) my personal view, he’ll serve two (weeks).

“I actually think it will be high. I think it will be medium (impact) and high (contact).

“He’ll get no benefit of the doubt in the way this is graded. He’d nearly kicked his opponent’s head off, which was a really dangerous moment, awful, and then for no reason whatsoever decided to whack him.”

The force of the incident is difficult to evaluate based on the footage, but Whateley argued it won’t matter if it’s a closed fist or open palm.

“Not in the manner he swung at him,” he explained.

With the incident occurring out of play, the grading of intentional is likely. A medium impact strike to the neck or head then warrants a two-week suspension, while low impact will earn Bolton one week on the sidelines.

Bolton finished the clash with 22 disposals but went goalless for the first time since Round 18, 2022.

I hope he does cop a suspension. This act was one of the dumbest things I’ve seen in footy, literally right in front of the umpire.

No wonder the football public think that there are too many shock jocks time wasters like this bloke and Karen
It was lucky to be a free kick , then no reversal, then over acting for a 50 , umpire bias is causing frustration

You're joking surely.

It was a definite free kick and a definite 50.

Not once did I think it should be overturned because of remonstration.

Bolton should be slapped for being such a tosser.

50m was enough but I can sympathise with your sentiment.

A 50m penalty never seems to bother Bolton. He's a serial offender.

As expected, nothing in it. Bolton in the clear.

---------------------------------------------

There was a bit of talk about this incident, but no charges from the MRO from Friday night's games.

I think it was 2018 where he was trying to constantly take mark of the year and do flashy things but not the bread and butter stuff and got sent to the vfl as a consequence? I wish we had the depth to do that again.

You must be taking the P, as he was kicking the ball the other player smothered it, play on!
When the free kick was payed the other player man handled Bolton, reverse of free kick. Just because you get a free kick doesn’t mean you can go on with it!
Whilst he should let it go the umpires unfairness leads to frustration

Smother? Lol

He was trying to get hand to ball, probably to pick it up. It was a genuine example of kicking in danger and the baby shove he gave Bolton afterwards was both deserved and wouldn't knock a chook off a fence on a windy day.

No umpire in their right mind would reverse that haha

Agree doesn’t look good, but why did Guilden hit Bolton in the chest??

Guilden hammed it up as well IMO

It was plain old kicking in danger. It was a loose ball from the centrebounce and Shai tried to kick the ball off the ground to get the ball forward but Gulden got there first. The stupidity was Shai getting sucked in, retaliating in front of the ump and giving away the 50. Not the first time this year our players have retaliated in that way. We gave 50 away to Nick Daicos for the exact same thing two weeks ago. Worst of all we had the momentum at the time against the Swans. It just gifted them soft territory and a cheap goal to steady them.

Most of the 50s we give away are just dumb but we keep doing them. Either we get sucked in by the opposition or we just don't learn the rules. Mansell (running over the 9) and Kmac (knocking the ball out of the hands) killed our momentum too. It comes back to our lack of discipline and professionalism and us not regularly doing the basics right in all things.

Warner's bump to Shai's head was all good?

Of course it was, the commentators said so.
