Matty White
« on: June 04, 2006, 12:47:11 AM »
What did we think of Matty White's debut?

Pretty promising I thought. Not a heap of possies but not bad for a first gamer (8 kicks, 1 hb) and what he did was solid and he hit his targets. A great goal too.

Terry likes to give newbies more than one game and going on tonight's efforts he's most likely earnt a game next week also.

Matty White interview on Club Corner

* Told Wednesday arvo in front of the group he was debuting. Thought he may have been a chance with Lids and Krak going down.

* Started on the bench then got his first run on the wing couple of minutes near the end of first quarter. Went on Heath Black initially then onto McManus. Picked up the pace of the game pretty quickly. Playing the NAB Cup helped him get use to the pace.

* Will always remember his first goal. Couldn't believe it through and it was great how the boys came up to him.

* Loss still hurts even though he was excited about his first game. We were up 15 points and then a couple of decisions didn't go our way.

* Trained with Richmond for 2 weeks prior to the National draft and there was talk about him being picked up in the rookie draft. Spoke to a few other clubs but ended up getting picked up in the PSD.

* Lids and Krak touch and go to play os not sure if he'll play this week.

It was mentioned at training today that apparently Terry really loves the way White goes about things. That he could become something special. He's bloody quick.

How did we judge Matty White's game last night?

He'll get a wrap on the knuckles for the 3 goal costing errors (missed goal on the run, running too far and poor short pass across ground) but on the flip side he was one of the few Tigers who tried to break the lines and get some flow into our game albeit not always successfully.

You're becoming pathetic, X.
Tiv had a game to forget, agreed.
Thought Rodan did better than some - 8 tackles showed a bit more desperation than someone who you admire for the same criteria.

I just don't see why you bring these players up every time as if they were the litmus test for our "total" performance every week.

I thought Matty White did okay actually - he made some errors - but I just like the way he goes about it.  He's gonna be good, IMO.

He was poor but so were about 18 others on the night. I do like his attitude in terms of running the lines. Inexperience cost him last night. He should get better with more games.

I was at the game and just love the way White was going about it. He wasn't giving any of the Swans an easy time.

The runnning too far was similar to Hall's a few weeks back where he had a three or four false starts behind the mark and then took off. Seems the umps are counting the distance travelled in the false starts.

From what I saw of him on Saturday night I would prefer him in the team before quite a few of his teammates
