20 July 2023Less than two months after joining Richmond via the Mid-Season Rookie Draft, Matthew Coulthard will make his AFL debut this weekend as Richmond's Round 19 substitute.
The debut completes a rapid rise for the 22-year-old small forward, who was Richmond's first selection (No. 4) in the May draft.
Coulthard arrived at Tigerland from Glenelg after just three senior SANFL matches in 2023, which included an eye-catching four-goal performance against Central District in May.
He has made his presence known straight away, kicking four goals in his opening six matches in Richmond's VFL side, his high work rate, speed and pressure all key features of his game.
"I'm really liking the progression that he's showing in his first few weeks at the Club," Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris said of Coulthard recently.
"He's definitely getting to know our system and our structures and the excitement he brings is profound."
Coulthard will be the fourth Tiger to make their AFL debut this season, following in the footsteps of Tylar Young, Sam Banks and Jacob Bauer.
