A small forward. Thank the heavens.

Pick him this week.

He needs 6 months of 'learning our systems' and 'working on his defensive side' lol

I wish they'd pick them straight away tbh

Glenelg Tiger Coulthard becomes a Richmond Tiger

By Richmond Media
31 May 2023

Glenelg small forward Matthew Coulthard has joined Richmond via the Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Richmond has used its first selection in the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft (No. 4 overall) to recruit Glenelg small forward Matthew Coulthard.

Coulthard has shot into AFL list contention in 2023, standing out in his first three SANFL matches for Glenelg since crossing over from local club Port Noarlunga.

The small forward showed his talent with an eye-catching four-goal performance in a low-scoring, wet-weather game against Central District on the weekend.

The 22-year-old is known for his high work rate, speed, and football IQ.

Recruited from: Glenelg
Position: Small forward
Height: 176cm
Weight: 69kg

What the Richmond recruiters say about Coulthard...

"A small forward, outside midfielder, Matt has progressed to the Glenelg league team in 2023. Originally recruited from local team Port Noarlunga, he has displayed a high work rate, speed and footy IQ to become a dangerous forward option centre forward. His ability to work up the ground, then back to goal at high speed to the fall of the ball and impact at the contest has been a highlight in all his senior football in the SANFL this year.

"Matts instinctive pressure and defensive qualities has been impressive and something we feel can add great value to our list.
His ability to impact in the front half through score assists while also hitting the scoreboard himself is of high quality. He can create with his hands off the contest, while using his foot skill to set up others around goal. Matt highlighted his improvement with a match winning dour goal performance at league level last weekend for Glenelg against Central District in heavy conditions.

"Matt will provide a great addition to our front half group with his goal sense, pressure and aerobic capacity."

Exactly the type we need. His 4 goals are stats from this year and his highlights has showed he's played up the ground a bit. Can't see his size being up the ground at AFL. Reads packs well. Perfect for T Lynch combo.

Gives me a bit of Shane Edwards vibe.

 :lol :lol

We can call his forward pocket Gilligan’s island
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

4. Richmond - Matthew Coulthard
Glenelg SANFL
Small forward
176cm/69kg
11/05/01

A small forward with elite crumbing ability, Coulthard is a speedy and dangerous player in the mould of Geelong's Tyson Stengle. Originally from local club Port Noarlunga, the 22-year-old only became eligible for the mid-season draft a matter of days ago, when he played his third SANFL game of the season and passed the eligibility threshold. The fact he kicked four goals in that game in wet conditions no doubt boosted his case and the Tigers have swooped.
