Ross Lyon as he usual does as coach will try to turn the game into a low scoring contested scrap with numbers behind the ball trying to hit us on the counter. The Saints have only kicked more than 12 goals once in their past 7 matches and that was 13 goals against GWS. On the flip side, opposition sides have only kicked more than 12 goals against St Kilda once all year (Crows in Adelaide kicked 19).

Richmond v St Kilda Preview

Andrew Slevison
SEN
15 June 2023

Richmond has found some form in the past two weeks, holding out GWS before adding a second road win on the trot by taking care of Fremantle last weekend.

They enter this Round 14 meeting with St Kilda with plenty of momentum, but the Saints also return to Melbourne on the back of a stirring away victory.

They got the job done against the Swans in Sydney and find themselves sitting fifth with an 8-4 record.

Ross Lyon has the Saints playing a brand that is difficult to break down, evidenced by the fact they have conceded the least amount of points (829) across the entire competition.

Under caretaker Andrew McQualter, the Tigers have largely stuck to the same style implemented by Damien Hardwick where they attack quickly once in the clear.

They have had a somewhat disrupted lead-up to this with the Marlion Pickett arrest news leading the agenda since Sunday as well as the Rhyan Mansell Tribunal and appeal situation.

There has been nothing of the like with the Saints, who saw ex-Tiger Dan Butler cleared to play for his dangerous tackle on Nick Blakey.

Butler’s fellow forward Max King has been tuning up nicely with 11 goals in three games since his return from a shoulder injury and poses a major threat to Richmond’s defence, led by Noah Balta.

There is enough in St Kilda’s favour, but in Trent Cotchin’s 300th game, the Tigers could find something a little extra for their triple premiership captain and pull off a result that well and truly keeps their season alive.

Tip: Richmond by 7 points.

THE CERTAINTIES OF ROUND 14 - Richmond versus St Kilda

Andrew Slevison
SEN
17 June 2023

Cotchin to have 20+ disposals, 3+ clearances

Trent Cotchin has been freed up by interim Richmond coach Andrew McQualter in the last two weeks.

The 33-year-old had his best game of the season in lat weekend’s win over Fremantle in Perth, collecting 28 disposals and seven clearances.

He is only averaging 15.6 disposals and 2.5 clearances this season, but he spent most of the first 10 games as a forward which probably doesn’t suit him.

In his 300th game, and now he’s back in the middle, we’re with ‘Cotch’ to have at least 20 touches and three clearances as he has done in each of his last three outings against St Kilda.

King and Butler to combine for 3+ goals

Max King has been in fine form since his return form a shoulder injury, kicking 11 goals in three games.

He turned it on against the Tigers in Round 3 last year, booting four majors. In the same game, ex-Tiger Dan Butler helped himself to two goals.

King kicked three and Butler two in last weekend’s win over Sydney and that pair should again hit the scoreboard on Saturday night.

We’ll go with at least three goals between the tall and small duo.

At home with influenza A. A bit shattered I won't be there for Cotchin.

Saints are a bit of a bunny side for us but if we ever needed to beat them it's tonight.

Nank gives away at least 2 or 3 of the a gam. You’d think Nank would have learnt not to tackle high by now.  :help

Too much build up.
Giving the footy up way too easy.
