Speaking to my m hosts for the weekend and they tell me the weather in Launie has been freezing at night but fine during the day (around 14-15 degree days) - sounds good to me  :thumbsup

Remember last season at the Dome we were raging favourites and we let the Dawks get off to a flyer and we didn't win until the last minute - cannot let that happen again IMO

True WP. We have a bad habit of doing this against the Hawks. Can remember us giving them huge starts 4 times in past 6 years  :-\. Thankfully we got over the line in 3 of them much to their devastation lol. We also haven't given another side a good thumping since the Blues game early last year. We need to show no mercy  :thumbsup.

As long as it isn't raining and the ground is fairly dry we should be fine. Not that we can't win in the wet but it does even up contests and as the Swans found out last week if you try to play dry weather footy in the wet you come undone very quickly.

The media "experts" have finally hopped on the Tiggy Train this week. Herald-Sun 17-1 and the Age 16-0 (not counting the black dog). Even Dermie went against his beloved Hawks.

WP, or anyone else going to the game, be interesting to know which team has the most support.  Just wondering what kind of supporter base we still have down there.  It used to be big, but with 26 years in the wilderness and other teams going down there, wondering whether we still have a healthy following.

I reckon it is pretty strong Moi - the pre-match function is a sellout (400+ people I believe)

Same timekeeper that stuffed up to do our game

Timekeeper back on job
17 June 2006   Herald Sun
Daryl Timms

THE timekeeper in the Round 5 siren fiasco at Aurora Stadium will back be in Tasmania for tomorrow's Hawthorn-Richmond clash.

Melbourne-based Max Harvey admitted he did not keep his finger on the button long enough for the umpires to hear the final siren in the St Kilda-Fremantle clash.

Although Fremantle had won the match at full time, the umpires allowed play to continue because they had not heard the siren.

The Saints drew the game in the illegal extra time, but the AFL Commission changed the result and awarded the four points to Fremantle.

AFL umpires boss Jeff Gieschen said last night Harvey had been allocated tomorrow's game when roster's were released at the start of the season.

``He was stood down for a couple of games but he wants to jump back on the horse and go back to Tasmania,'' Gieschen said.

Harvey took full responsibility for the error but Tasmanian-based timekeeper Noel McKenzie was also stood down.

Gieschen said because there had been no more games at Aurora Stadium since Round5, McKenzie was still having ``a spell''.

Aurora Stadium manager Robert Groenewegen said new sirens had since been installed and the timekeeper's box relocated to the fourth level of The Gunns Stand on the wing.

Groenewegen said it was still being decided whether the old sirens would be donated to a local museum or auctioned for charity.

He said tomorrow's game was likely to be a sellout, with 18,500 tickets already sold. The ground has a capacity of about 22,000.

I hope WP, X and co have taken their earplugs. A predicted sunny 15 degrees in Launceston for the match so no excuses for us tomorrow.

Launceston all clear (Herald-Sun)

Launceston all clear
18 June 2006   Sunday Herald Sun
Jon Ralph

AFL ground operations manager Jill Lindsay gave the all-clear yesterday to the controversial Aurora Stadium's new sirens and time-keepers box ahead of today's Hawthorn-Richmond match.

Lindsay is the appointed match manager for the game _ the first at the ground since the ``sirengate'' fiasco involving St Kilda and Fremantle _ and was shown the improved timekeepers' box and the two banks for four sirens.

Aurora Stadium manager Robert Groenewegen said yesterday the newly installed $15,000 sirens had an emergency battery back-up, with another siren to be played through the PA system if they failed.

``We have got a back-up to the back-up to the back-up,'' he said.

Lindsay said the sirens would reach the 86-decibel standard set for AFL venues comfortably.

``There is a list of things I go through and the issue with the sirens was dealt with straight after the (StKilda-Fremantle) game there,'' she said.

Tigers had the greater support by a long way - we were front page, back page news. They got 300-400 people at a Crazy John promo on Saturday

The kids selling the records were yelling "Footy record - Tigers come to Tassie - get ya footy record"  :lol

All the locakls reckon the Tigers are massive in Tassie :thumbsup

That's what i thought, WP.  It was so quiet on the TV, they had to be mostly Tiger supporters.
Didn't have much to cheer about.

True Moi. The only time there was a real loud cheer was when Petts kicked that long bomb for a goal in the second quarter.

RFC ask for Hawks game in Tassie to become a annual fixture

The Age

HAWTHORN has started negotiations to increase the number of games it plays in Tasmania after the success of its match against Richmond last Sunday.

Hawthorn is contracted to play two matches a season at Aurora Stadium in Launceston until 2010, but is eager to increase its number of home games at the venue after a record crowd of 20,971 turned out for the game.

Club president Jeff Kennett met Tasmanian Premier Paul Lennon over a round of golf at Barnbougle Dunes in the state's north-east last Saturday.

According to a source from Events Tasmania, which guarantees Hawthorn and St Kilda a profit of $300,000 a game at Aurora Stadium, Lennon was keen for Hawthorn to commit to four matches a year in Tasmania from 2008, when St Kilda's contract expires.

He [Kennett] also said he had been approached by Richmond board members before Sunday's match, and they intimated a desire to play Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on a regular basis.

"We have fallen in love with Tasmania," Kennett said. "And like us, they were thrilled with the crowd, the venue, the playing surface, and how the match had been embraced by its members. It was suggested (by Richmond) that Hawthorn-Richmond in Launceston could become an annual fixture."
