The Dead Wood
« on: August 13, 2023, 05:38:06 PM »
The Dead Wood is weighing us down. It's time to try and get some good draft position back because as we all know you NEED 1st round picks to have a premiership list.

Kmac
Soldo
Pickett
Grimes
Broad
Prestia
Graham

Should all be gone at seasons end.
If you were serious about rebuilding properly then I'd also look at

Bolton
Balta
Hopper

This allows us to actually play our young players and find out if they're good enough and get back into the draft.

I've posted before we should trade Bolton for pick 1.
Dusty for pick 5.
Anyone is up for trade.

No one is taking Hoppers contract.  I'm still hoping he comes good.

I would trade broad and hopper, paying some of his salary. Graham won't get us much but he should
Go as well.

Grimes should retire before competing his contract. He is cooked the champ, and he should play his last game with cotch next week. That is best for the club.

No chance either wa club would give us pick 1  for Bolton (25) given the status of their lists.

Lol there has been lots of dead wood even in the premiership years.

To stay up or become a threat every year you have to keep evolving. We just have not done this.
I would like a dollar for every time ive heard yeah but so and so is a premiership player.

The real question supporters need to ask themselves is how long will it take before we can even get into a position to challenge again.

Who was dead wood in our premiership years ? Everyone played their role. Now they’re either too old or getting exposed because our A graders can’t dominate like they used to.

People need to be realistic about what players are worth

As if we would get pick 5 for a couple of years of past it Dusty

As for anyone up for trade .. there isn’t one player in the league (apart from potentially someone like a Pendlebury) that isn’t available

The only question is price

He's worth a heap in marketing dollars and promotion on top of his playing abilities.
It won't happen though

From Robbo's 'dislikes' column:

3. TIGERS IN NAME ONLY

They continue to be a shadow of themselves at Marvel Stadium, but that’s the least of their problems. The new coach – and it won’t be Josh Carr who is out of the race – and the list management have to rebuild and find young talent, as highlighted as a matter of urgency by Hawks great Jordan Lewis in this masthead on Saturday. Question marks hover above premiership players, such as Dylan Grimes, Marlion Pickett and Kamdyn McIntosh. It hurts writing that about Grimes because he’s captain and has been a hell of a player. He’s 32 and his contribution has diminished. Pickett’s become a stop-gap player, being used anywhere from wing, ruck, and forward. McIntosh has been solid but the Tigers have to start using more players between the arcs. Still, he has speed which is what the Tigers desperately need. The Tigers have used the second fewest players this year (34) behind St Kilda (31). Richmond’s problem – and they are a victim of their success – is they don’t have depth and when the topliners don’t fire, the team looks mediocre, especially away from the MCG.

Ah the A graders are old and can no longer  carry the deadwood is what you mean.
When you mention role players you really mean players who are one dimensional and can only perform one part of a job that really requires them to be proficient in two or three areas.Yep we have plenty of them.

It’s no coincidence you went quiet in our successful era and you’re just back to say our role players sucked. Like it or not, the likes of Castagna, Townsend, caddy, kmac, pickett, Graham, and the list goes on all played their role in us winning flags. None of them were anything more than role players and they all had their deficiencies. So what’s your point ?

Dont believe i have ever been quiet when it comes to the Grahams McIntoshs Shorts and so many others of this world who we should have been aiming to upgrade for many a year now including thru the premiership years. I have had some real abuse on this site because i dared say it while we were winning..We would have won those flags with or with out them fmd Castagna must be the most unskilled premiership player i have ever seen and you dont think we should not have been aiming for better.

Any way just for me define what you think a role player is.

The good players were always going to get old.Now they have. So who iyo are the ones who should be raising their games and taking over.
Just to finish the greatest relief i have ever had in my life and when it comes to sport the greatest joy which includes winning a few premierships was the 2017 premiership yet i put up with dick head posts like the one you just posted.

Calling things for what they are does not make you a better or worse supporter. It just means you say what you think and see.

Back to the difference between a role defined by position and role player. Please tell me what you think.

Last comment here. Value adding at our club has gone out the window. Surely supporters grasp the concept of value adding.

Come to think of it most here have nfi what it is.

Im gunna make it easy. Seeing as so many of our players are role players then surely they are the ones you should always be looking to value add on.

Value add means a cheap way to improve on a role or area with out targeting a an expensive replacement. So many role players we should have been doing this with and im asking who have we done it with. Certainly not those limited premiership players.

Well when  coming on here this morning and finding you had posted in nearly every thread I have made the sad decision that after nearly 20 years being a oneeyed-richmond forum member I just can't wade through such negativity every day.

I came here and found a forum that shared my passion for my beloved Tigers and loved the insite we got for some that were on the inside and could be involved in the Tigers the way I couldn't.  Those days have gone now and most of those that know what going on and provided a balance in the arguments about players,  coaching and all the other off field parts of the club have left the forum or just dont provide the info anymore.

Thanks MT and one-eyed and anyone else for running this site. It has been a wonderful ride especially in the last 5 years. After this post I won't be posting anymore however I do reserve the right in posting in the tipping comps.

One last thing I would like to say to Claw. You have your views and that's fine. Other have thiers and that's fine too but they don't deserved to be insulted just because they differ to yours. You have claimed many time over that you don't change win loose or draw but the facts speak otherwise. 234 times you posted in our 3 winning years and there was not one post celebrating our wins in 19 or 20. That's 234 in 3 years and you have posted more than that in the last 3 months. That 12 times as often. That's a significant change in my books.

One last thing.  :gotigers

Too bad you feel that way . To me it just shows your intolerance of critical posters.

Lets see i post here for no other reason than the fact i dont post anywhere else now days. My time used to be spent on several sites.

The  reason for more  Critical posts over the last three years i thought would be obvious we are not winning struggling to make finals and their is plenty to criticise. Its hard to justify criticism when you are winning.Although on that my view has always been there are plenty of things that can be improved even when winning.

Believe it or not this  is one site that actually allows posters to be as critical as they like. Its why im here.
