Only 8 AFL-listed players is pretty thin. While retirements, injuries, suspensions and promotions gave us little choice this week, it's disappointing we couldn't put the interests of our VFL team playing in finals ahead of a dead rubber for the AFL team.

What could we have done? We need to field 23 players at AFL level. Cotch and Jack retired so they needed to be replaced. The 2 debutants were replaced at vfl level by those dropped from seniors. I think they took 1 extra player with them to Adelaide as backup, other than that it is what it is with retirements, injuries and suspensions.

I'm not disagreeing, TK. As I said, it gave the Club little choice this week given all the events that have happened over the past week. It's just disappointing that the failed season of our AFL team is now costing our VFL team in the finals. Of course, Sonsie's late last quarter stupidity was something that was avoidable and has cost him and us in the VFL finals as well.

I think the pies are similarly stretched at vfl with their injuries too?

Maybe this is a situation where what is in the best interests of the afl team does not align with what is in the best interests of the vfl team. Need to blood new players in the afl team pronto regardless if it is a dead rubber even though it has the effect of depriving the vfl side of its better players.

Spot on.

Agree

And let's be honest fundamentally our VFL side is there more for development of the Cubs coming through. Yes the wins are very important but so too is making sure when it bec0mes necessary (like today) they are ready to step into the AFL side.

Clearly our long injury list hasn’t helped either.

So true, finals will give them good experience similar to playing seniors. It will be interesting to see who stands up

We had the ball in our forward half for most of the first 5 mins but couldn't get a goal. Pies go forward once and get the first goal.

Pies two goals from just 4 inside 50s yet we haven't got one from 8 inside 50s.
