Rate a Tiger's year - Maurice Rioli Jnr
« on: September 11, 2023, 06:55:06 AM »
Next up is Maurice Rioli jnr.

In his third season, Maurice played 10 games out of a possible 23 to take his career tally to 27. A mixture of form (or rather lack of it) plus two hamstrings curtailed his year. After playing in five of the opening six rounds, he pulled his first hammy during the Anzac Eve loss to Melbourne which forced him out of the AFL side, and he didn't return until just before the bye in round 14. He was then in and out of the seniors for the rest of the season. He was dropped again before the Round 16 match against Brisbane, then brought back for two games before being dropped again. Maurice finally returned for the last two matches only to do another hammy on the other leg in the last round against Port. Stats-wise, Maurice only reached double digit possessions and kicked goals on one occasion in 2023 which was in the opening round against Carlton.

Season highlights
● 11 disps (7 kicks 4 hballs), 2 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals in the Rd 1 draw with Carlton at the MCG (Mar 16).

Gave him a 4 and that's simply for his defensive efforts which are clearly his strengths

Overall I tohguht it was a disappointing year. I expected him to stich up a permanent place in the 22 and he didn't

Fumbles too much and I think that's a by product of his decision making.

Was pleased to see him finally get midfield time in the VFL where he showed some promise

2024 us going to me a massive year for MJ

Was also expecting a better year this year. In 2022 he put on a good base and should have lifted his output further.

Has good speed and pressures well, but he is still a forward and needs to increase his goal scoring. Castagna kicked 26/27 goals for three years on end.

Can MRJ do the same. Right now not confident

a zero for me for looking fat and lazy during games. It would have been a 1, but then his petulant antics refusing to answer the call brought it down to zero.

one more year then its a rookie spot from 2025.

I was excited heading into round 1. I thought he was awesome in 2022 .

He has not progressed at all . Seems devoid of confidence.

I would rate him a 3/10. He needs to train as a midfielder and get super fit.
Offers very little offensively.
Has talent, reckon the coaches are putting too much emphasis on his pressure where I believe he should be encouraged to attack and score first, defend later.

Needs to calm down - spends it before he gets it , even his tackling was poor for the most part this year -endemic of the side as a whole. Still think he'll be a player though - just stop expecting an exact clone of his old man who was one the greatest players of all time, so even if he just ends up a poor man's version that 'll still be very handy. :shh

Zero. Atrocious season, 1 acceptable performance all year. Continues to get opportunities he doesnt deserve or has been made to earn. That's not his fault, just shows we need fresh faces on the coaching landscape

Isn't a double negative a positive, so by regressing backwards hasn't he progressed...
