Fawcett, Ross tracking for VFL returns

By Richmond Media

Richmond's Round 22 Injury Report - brought to you by nib health.

Richmond pair Liam Fawcett and Jack Ross are considered good chances to return to football after long injury lay-offs this weekend.

Fawcett (back stress fracture) has not played a game for Richmond at any level since being selected in last year’s National Draft, while Ross (foot) has not played since Round 5.

The duo will need to complete training on Tuesday and Thursday to be selected for Sunday’s VFL game against Sandringham, a game which each would play managed minutes in.

Youngsters Tom Brown and Steely Green however will be out for the remainder of the season, following ankle injuries in Sunday’s loss to North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.

Brown and Green both came from the field during the third quarter, with Green’s lower functionality meaning he was subbed out of the contest.

While Brown was able to move freely throughout the final term, scans have unfortunately revealed a syndesmosis injury that would likely keep him sidelined for six weeks.

Scans revealed a more moderate syndesmosis injury for Green; however, his injury has been compounded by damage to his toe suffered in the same tackle.

The youngster who has played six AFL games this season, including the past four will be in a moonboot for the next three weeks before stepping up his rehabilitation, thus ending his season.

Tom Lynch will be integrated into some full training involvement this week after recovering well from a high-load session on Saturday.

The Club will monitor Lynch throughout the week before deciding his availability for the last fortnight of the year.

Kane McAuliffe is a test for this weekend after he suffered a minor hip strain at training last week. The youngster will need to prove his fitness by being able to move freely and without restriction on the track this week.

Marlion Pickett will also need to have a good week at training to be considered for selection after experiencing hamstring soreness last week.

Injury Report: Round 23, 2024

By Richmond Media

Get the latest injury update from Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan ahead of Sunday's Round 23 clash with Hawthorn at the MCG.

Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan provides an injury update ahead of our Round 23 match against Hawthorn thanks to nib.

Tom Lynch, hamstring - ruled out for the remainder of the season

"(A full pre-season for him is) extremely important. Tom's actually now missed two full pre-seasons, and even on top of that, he's missed two off-seasons. So, he's gone into the last two off-seasons rehabbing, and low level rehab. So, it's quite exciting for us to get Tom healthy at this stage of the year, so he can have a decent break, attack his off-season and do a full pre-season, which will hold him in great stead for next year and be really exciting for our Tigers supporters."

Liam Baker, concussion

"Unfortunately (with when) it happened, the timing's not great because the 12-day concussion protocol will rule him out for two games. He started doing some light exercise today and we anticipate he'll be healthy for the last game against the Suns."

Kane McAuliffe, illness

"Kane's been battling a chest infection the last few weeks. The doctor made a decision last Saturday morning to pull him out of the (VFL) game, he just still wasn't right. He's feeling a little bit better today, so we'll see how he is later in the week. We anticipate he'll be okay to play."

Marlion Pickett, hamstring

"Marlion's moving okay, we'll just see how he is later this week with regards to this weekend, but we're hoping he'll at least play the last game."

Tom Brown, ankle

"'Browny' had surgery on his right shoulder last week, he's pulled up really well. He's also in a moon boot for his syndesmosis. He'll have surgery in about four weeks' time on his other shoulder, but from all reports, he's going really well."

Steely Green, ankle

"Steely's in a moon boot. He's like a Jumping Jack at the moment, he doesn't really know what to do with all his spare time. He's feeling a lot better and he'll be fine for a full pre-season."

Jack Ross and Liam Fawcett, VFL returns

"(They went) really great. Liam just played the half, he's pulled up really well. We'll increase his game time this weekend. 'Rossy' (was) the same, he pulled up quite well and we're looking forward to seeing him play (again) this week."

Campbell Gray, hamstring

"Campbell's going okay. Like we mentioned earlier, he's working a lot on his athletic traits, working really hard with our medical and fitness staff. At this stage, we're probably not going to see him again this year, but he's looking okay for a full pre-season."

Josh Gibcus, knee

"'Gibbo' has turned the corner in the last couple of weeks, his strength has really improved, and we're really hoping to get him running next week."

Mate Colina, back

"Mate had a positive scan yesterday. It showed full healing his bone edema. We're going to consult with a specialist to see what our next move is with him."

Can they just put (season) next grey already. 3-5 with 2 weeks left, who are they kidding. Even if they think the vfl team will make finals it still ain’t happening.

Why is brown having bilateral shoulder surgery??

Because both shoulders were stuffed. Didn't you see the amount of tape he played with?

I did.

They haven't been clear about what the actual issue and surgery is though.

It is obvious, his ankle is shot so they are operating on his shoulder.

For memory his shoulders used to pop out all the time, they call it "sub luxing" or something like that

Yes subluxation, it's just a partial dislocation.

Ask me how I know :D

Only cellar-dwellers Richmond have had it worse. In a baptism from hell, first-year coach Adem Yze has had to cope with players from his best 22 missing 171 games, ranking the Tigers a clear last on the injury ladder.
