Players request a contract length and wage I believe.

Most ask for minimum 18m so they aren't moving interstate etc for only 6m.

That Hawks bloke got picked up I think on a 4 year deal with decent coin.

As in the guy they took with pick 5 in this draft?

4-years is outrageous, guy hit the jackpot lol.

Nah it was Jai Newcombe and I checked my facts - he requested a 2.5 year contract with stipulations for bonuses etc so I think he got around $250k in his first full season.

Most blokes nominate for 6 or 18 months on basic rookie wages.

20 odd of the over 300 who nominated for thr MSD had nominated an 18 month term, not sure if either of ours did

Pretty ballsy for anyone in the mid season draft to be making contract demands. You would have thought they would just want to get on an AFL list given they’d been overlooked multiple times before. I guess it makes sense for interstate players to want longer term deals if they are having to move but 2.5 years is more then the kids taken in the national draft get, or atleast used to (can’t remember if this has been bumped up to 3 years now).

I think he was playing for Box Hill Hawks, so Hawthorn had been in his ear and he wanted to play for them only.

The contract stipulations were deliberate to ward off other clubs picking him beforehand.
