Club Corner - June 19
« on: June 19, 2006, 11:50:50 PM »
Paul Armstrong

* Cogs back at Xmas. Maybe back in time in round 1 next year.

* Majority senior players get week off Wed lunchtime to mon. One or two to play Sunday (ask AFL for permission) who haven't had as much ground time in the seniors. Heavy day training Tursday and Wednesday morning (review).

* Warned several times about complancy but that's exactly what happened. And in the main it was the Hawks lesser names that got away from us. Like the Freo game one that slipped away going into the break.

Wayne Johnston

* Even now as a runner, when there's a big crowd and a big game the adrenalin kicks in.

* Said footy is in great shape as he sees the young players develop up until the finish product on match days. There's never been more pressure placed on footballers. Skills exhibited so much better than when he played. If they played like we did, they would be 10 times better.

Brian Royal

* Had early chances to put a score on the board but didn't. Hawthorn did. Overall we didn't play well and the Hawks did. Same number of scoring shots and inside 50s, however they were in control  of the game and the far better side.

* Major disappointment as we were favourites and Hawthorn had an number of senior players out. We went through the week pre-game the possible scenarios that could arise (Hawthorn coming out having nothing to lose etc). Unfortunately that was of course what happened.

* Hardly any positives from the game. Johnson on Hodge and maybe Pettifer and Patto. Virtually everyone else was beaten.

* Going to be hard now with the Pies and Port in Adelaide to come. Need to win one against the odds as we did against the Crows.

* Coaches finish up on Friday but a number will go up to Sydney to watch Collingwood.

* Asked about us being susceptible to bigger talls - Royal mentioned Razor has had a couple of bags kicked on him in the last two weeks which is disappointing. Gas should be back against the Pies. Pretty confident that Richo will be back too.

* Gas - missed 5 weeks due to a hammy. Playing seniors didn't guarantee enough ground time with match-ups etc. Coburg a better opportunity to get gametime into him. He will play for Coburg this Sunday.

* Could be a number of changes given the result. Schulz if he has a good game for Coburg will be  in strong contention.

* Different midseaon break between Richmond and Collingwood should not make a difference. We need to make sure we come back from the break hard.

* Can't blame fatigue for Cogs' knee as it was done in the first 5 minutes. Possibly look at speed with the new kick-in rules. Said he wasn't sure why the game is getting a bad run with knees.

* Richmond has played more players than any other this year.

* Dean said he struggled to adapt last year but playing better this year. Coburg doing well makes it harder given the 12/10 rule. No guarantee of getting a game. When you get demoted to the Coburg ressies you can't drop your bundle. Got to play well and show you don't belong down at this level. Comes from the Coburg area so the ground is nearby.

* Played 5 TAC Cup games before breaking his arm(s?) and missed 18 weeks. Had an informal meeting with Miller and Beck before the draft.

* Drafted as a FF although has played occasionally in defence. Playing more at FF this year along with Cleve. Hopes he gets a chance this year to stand next to Richo sometime.

* Has added 10 kgs so can match it a bit better with the bigger bodies. Needs to work on his endurance.

* Thinks he and Cleve can work well together (a strong hint to play both of them up forward in the Coburg seniors as he thought it was a bit strange they weren't).

* Wants to play well and hopes he can get a new contract then take it and improve from there.

* Asked about his hopes for the rest of 2006 - has high expectations of himself and aims to make his debut this year.

Because 10 goals in two weeks isn't good enough for them? hmmm....

Schulz not playing last weekend was a massive stuff up.
I couldn't believe it based on his form for the Burgers....and as we know Staff absolutely killed the hawks. :P

Yeah Sarge should have played instead of Staff but the Club has said it now wants guys coming back from injury to play for Coburg for 3-4 weeks to build up match fitness and gametime.

No they didn't play - VFL are in the middle of split round. Coburg play this Sunday against Box Hill

I'd reckon we are trying to get Staff to his 200 as he'll retire at the end of the year.

Just keep in mind that prior to last weekend - Jay had played 2 and half games of footy for Coburg (that includes VFL reserves footy as well as senior stuff) after having missed the previous 6 weeks (?) with injury. There would have been serious questions about his match fitness
