I think you can be peeed they are leaving but also see the sooner looking in what this presents us. It'spiss weak to want to go home after success, Nathan Broad iwill be remembered as a premiership medal legend.

The other 3 won't, maybe Daniel. But as I said you are allowed to hate the decision and enjoy the outcome.

Dunno why everyone's bitter...the club has pretty much encouraged this exodus because we want to fast track the rebuild before tassie arrives....backhanded speech from the president leads me to believe that perhaps he's not on the same page as the footy department..... :help

Possibly to appease the emotional masses who fail to see the big picture. He ran Plenary, he gets subterfuge
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Fair enough WP

I agree with Dio on this

I actually think they are doing a favour leaving and I can’t see the angst

We are about to get a handful of early picks in a strong draft. And another strong haul next year and we are hopefully on the way with the next generation of young kids.

You are correct.

They are 100% doing us a favour.

The club can force both Bolton + Rioli to stay, like SYD did with pap.

But instead they are happy for them to go because they know they have currency and we need to commit to this rebuild badly before Tas.

There should be no hard feelings at all. To think that the club wasn't having conversations with these guys throughout the year is silly and there's every chance the club was always prepared to entertain the trades.

Pathetic speeches from Baker and Bolton.

I’m fine with players leaving but show some humility and respect for the club that gave you your chance and you won flags with.

Ralph Carr was managing Bolton and Rioli at sone stage? I know some may differ, but i think he has been fantastic for our club that guy.

The end result may be the same, which is fine, but im not sure we would have heard the same pathetic speeches as we heard last night.

I thought Rioli tried his best .. he clearly wasn’t comfortable , but I think that’s more his nature than the leaving situation

I haven’t watched any of the speeches but Bolton has always been a terrible public speaker, can’t imagine it being any worse regardless of whether he was staying or going.

Baker is surprising though.

Congratulations to Dan Rioli. He may become the first player in the club's history to win the best and fairest and leave the club in the same year. Can't see the point in people making speeches when they are leaving the club to go to another club.

Were the speeches of Baker/Bolton after the president basically called them disloyal pieces of poo?

Ah well. Think it's better to remain humble and thank blokes for their service. Certainly don't need to kiss their ass as they go out the door but acknowledge their contribution and move on. No need to for speeches that are clearly against them

Agree. Didn’t love that from the president. As much as it’s obvious Rioli and to a lesser extent Bolton are leaving because they don’t want to play for a crap team, them leaving can hopefully become mutual beneficial. All the want always have served us well and have been apart of 2-3 flags each. Thank them for their services and move on, can commend the guys who have remained loyal without taking swipes at the others.

What I didn't like about the President's comments was it put an unfair focus, call it pressure if you like on Broad.

I get what he was trying to do as it was the only interesting part of his speech but it put Nathan in an awkward position

I didn’t mind it , awkward for sure, but for the club to say nothing might be interpreted as we don’t have a problem with players breaking their contracts and it would be setting a precedent ,and  that is why we need overs for the contracted players  otherwise we will be the new raiding ground.
