No season opener for us again in 2025

AFL’s northern states extravaganza to return – with a twist

The AFL has made it clear to clubs Opening Round is likely to make a return in 2025. But, writes JON RALPH, it will have a twist to appease Victorian fans.

----------

Should Gather Round finish with an all Vic clash to give heartland clubs a taste of the footy in the first weekend.... Or did the wait for another week fuel the all-time record crowds which watched round 1?

Wait for Coke to sponsor it.

Is he proposing us vs GC on the massive assumption that dusty will be playing there? Because otherwise that is a nothing game, it’s pretty close to a nothing game even with dusty involved.

Who cares what it is called, don't want us part of it. It is a stupid idea that HQ came up with for no other reason than to try and upset the NRL

According to the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark, the Blues are hoping to avoid a road-heavy schedule in the early part of next year which is part of the reason why they have told the league they would prefer to start their 2025 season in the traditional season-opener against Richmond at the MCG.

The round one clash between the Tigers and Blues will be a Richmond home game in 2025, with the Tigers set to unleash a plethora of exciting youngsters as a new era under Adem Yze begins.
