Add OHB with a hammy to the injury list.

KmacII listed as 4-6 again. Well that’s his season done. The most annoying thing about this “cautious” approach that the the s&c team have been preaching is that it isn’t even working. Players have constantly reinjured themselves in their early games back or just as they tick down to the 1-2 week mark in their extended rehab.

Just frustrated that it seems that holding players out of AFL returns to get more training in or come back on managed minutes in the VFL has failed so many times. Would they have reinjured themselves if put straight into the AFL? Perhaps, but it’s clear something isn’t clicking with our rehab program.

Injury Report: Round 21, 2025

High Performance Manager Ben Serpell gives this week’s Injury Report ahead of the side's Round 21 clash against Gold Coast.

Tim Taranto - Calf, Test

"Tim had a bit of calf tightness after the Perth game (against West Coast), unfortunately he felt that still in the warmup going into the game," Serpell said.

"What we're going to do is take a conservative approach. We'll put him on a test for this week. Also, his conditioning over the last week is something we're considering in helping make that decision.

"Hopefully he's OK this week and hopefully on the plane, but we'll go conservative with him if we have to."

Seth Campbell - Concussion, Test

"Happy to say that Seth's got through with flying colours so far," Serpell said.

"He's just got to get through training tomorrow and he'll be available this weekend."

Josh Smillie - Conditioning, Test

"Smil is a similar scenario to Seth, we've seen him out doing some training lately," Serpell said.

"I'm happy to say that if he gets through training this week, we'll consider him for a game.

"Of course there's a conservative approach we like to take with these young blokes, we'll continue down that path if we need to."

Mykelti Lefau - Calf, 2-4 weeks

"Mykelti is going OK. He's probably not progressing as well as we'd like him to," Serpell said.

"I had him down for two to four weeks last week. I'm going to stick to that at this point in time to make sure he progresses in a safe manner."

Liam Fawcett - Foot, 2-4 weeks

"Liam's done really well. He came out of surgery well, got into training pretty quickly," Serpell said.

"The boys downstairs (trainers) are doing a good job with him. We anticipate him back within two to four weeks."

Oliver Hayes-Brown - Hamstring, 2-4 weeks

"He was a bit tight after some aerial contests," Serpell said.

"With our ruck stocks, we want to go a bit conservative, around a two to four week timeline, to ensure we're doing the right thing by him."

Thomson Dow - Patella, 2-5 weeks

"Really happy to say that Thomson Dow is starting to respond well to his training," Serpell said.

"Whilst we'll be holding his return-to-play timeline similar to the past couple of weeks, hopefully we see that drop in the next couple of weeks."

Kane McAuliffe - Quad, 4-6 weeks

"Sad for Kane, because the week before, he got through our scratch match against Sandringham with flying colours. We wanted to make sure he got through another training session," Serpell said.

"Unfortunately, he had a re-strain in that training session. That's going to put him back for another four to six weeks."

Campbell Gray - Knee, 4-6 weeks

"He's doing quite well. We expect him back in around four to six weeks for hopefully the wildcard (VFL) and VFL Finals after that," Serpell said.

Samson Ryan - Foot, 4-6 weeks

"We'll put four to six weeks for Samson Ryan. He's progressing well and with our ruck stocks, we just want to look after them a bit more," Serpell said.

The strategy doesn’t seem to be working. Both gray and kmac 2 reverted back to original time frame after being a test..don’t recall seeing that before

i posted the other week that Gray didn't get through his test (source Chutney) and it flared badly. I can also add that his knee injury wasn't a stock standard MCL or PCL. He explained it as being like a syndesmosis injury to the knee joint. Something that is very rare in AFL footy (again source Chutney)

I haven’t seen those posts.

Just strange to get this info second hand, why does the club have to be sheepish about it ? Makes the whole thing look worse imo m
Edit: and on Kane, he got through a scratch match but re strained in training. Just tells me he simply wasn’t ready.. why are we seeing this happen, identical to Lalor really. Just bewildering

This is the link to my post on Gray's knee flaring up after his fitness test. It's on the previous page

I hadn't posted about the syndesmosis before,  only got told that after Saturday's game.

This is such a damned shame. Season over for the kid, and I really wanted to see him play again this year.

I don't understand how you can play out a scratch match but their re-do an injury in a regular training session. But I suppose the only thing that makes sense is he was returned too early and maybe needed another couple of weeks off?

I posted this somewhere else and will post again here
It’s called the strength and conditioning dept,  not the strength, conditioning and/or wait and see dept.

We seem to be undercooking the strength and conditioning bit and overcooking the wait and see bit but I also think it’s criminal there’s little or no pre season before Christmas. AFLPA have a lot to answer for
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Yep players wanted and got a shorter pre-season and as a result injuries have sky-rocketed across the comp the last 3 seasons.

Nice bait there which is against site rules.

Final warning for you

I don’t mean to interject or take sides, but WP, in the vfl thread you commented on Armstrongs physique saying something like “ must be that conditioning  :shh

Is that considered baiting ? Honest question, because it seems like the baiting is on both sides to me. As you know I don’t really partake in these convos but just something I noticed

WP did say that. It was harmless as was Dan's post above.
