Gibcus is 10 weeks away and might play a few VFL games

Put him on ice

Let Prestia go out on his terms

That’s my two bobs worth

Agreed. The hysteria over a mid season pick is bit over the top . Seriously guys, it’s not that big a deal

Jai Newcombe says hi.

Any chance to add talent to the list needs to be considered.

We have P3 if we make a spot and as I said earlier it looks like we will be losing some VFL players again.

I'm not sold on any of Mansell, MRJ or Green although I think Green has the most upside.

If Raso is showing potential we should try to sign him up.

There are a few cases where rookie picks have turned out very well, Newcombe, Noble, Pickett, Durham, Martin and prob some others that I can’t remember. However there’s much more cases of unsuccessful picks. Remember the pool are simply composed of players that went undrafted the year prior and are being picked up based on 6 months of good form in the state leagues.

I think what people aren’t considering as well is if we take someone in the mid season draft we lose a list spot for the end of year national and rookie drafts as I’m pretty sure these guys get 18 month deals now and not 6 months.

We need a smart quick small forward quick smart, Raso's right here and is more important than giving Prestia a farewell quarter in round 21. :shh

Additionally there are players drafted at the end of the year (eg M D'Ambrosio) from our VFL team that we could have secured months earlier via MSD given we had them at our club already and could have known their worth, potential and negotiated MSD contracts.

I don’t rate d’ambrossio that highly so not really fussed. Lovely kick but is an outside player who gets it off others good work. Would likely struggle in a poor team as ours like most of our outside players.

Durham on the other hand who slot in great in our side.

Outside players with elite kicks are useful in any team.

Sure but I think you’ll find those elite kicks aren’t so elite when they don’t get it as frequently, are under more pressure when they receive it and don’t have anyone to kick it to.

It’s not like his kicks are never under pressure because he plays for an above average team.

Elite kicking is a valuable asset in any team. Period.

I’m not saying he isn’t a good player and wouldn’t get into our team, I just personally do t place too much value on outside players especially with where our list is at. That’s why I thought we got overs for Rioli. We need to build our midfield and our spine before we worry about the wings and flanks. Ofcourse if one of those players falls in our laps you snatch them up, but bigger fish to fry at this stage imo.

I f***ing love this club”

Is that a rhetorical question or do I really need to suggest reasons why various clubs wouldn't bother?

Or are you just going to take the obtuse and banal position that's it's categorically not worth it and no club should ever bother?

IMO it is worth taking a pick in the MSD every year for the chance to land a Jai Newcomb or Massimo type player.

Hallelujah!

Someone sees the common sense answer haha.

Every chance we have to add talent to the list needs to be taken.

We have players who should have been on the LTIL from the start of the year or retired by now.

You shouldn’t be adding to the list just because we can. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread taking someone in this mid season draft takes up a list spot. If we pass on the mid season draft we have another list spot available at the national or rookie draft at the end of the season.

I can see plenty of blokes being moved on at the end of the year myself

That may be true but it doesn’t take away from the fact that we will have 1 more spot if we don’t take someone mid season.

Look I’m not saying we shouldn’t take anyone in the mid season draft if there’s a specific player they feel warrants it, I just don’t think it’s a must.
