You shouldn’t be adding to the list just because we can. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread taking someone in this mid season draft takes up a list spot. If we pass on the mid season draft we have another list spot available at the national or rookie draft at the end of the season.

I can see plenty of blokes being moved on at the end of the year myself

That may be true but it doesn’t take away from the fact that we will have 1 more spot if we don’t take someone mid season.

Look I’m not saying we shouldn’t take anyone in the mid season draft if there’s a specific player they feel warrants it, I just don’t think it’s a must.

How many picks do you see us using at the end of the year?

I'm uninspired by our small forwards and think Raso is worth a punt.

I can also think of 7 blokes I'd be delisting haha

We only have 2 picks in the ND however I can see us getting 1-2 more, defo need one for kellaway jnr. unless the club flat out don’t rate him.

Then whatever list spots we have left id imagine we’d use in the rookie draft potentially leaving 1 spot for the SSP period.

In terms of delistings I’m not sure as the contract list hasn’t been updated in ages. If someone knows who’s out of contract at the end of the year that would be helpful. Retirees I can only really see Prestia pulling the pin. Kmac and Lynch have both been fit this season and are still playing each week so I don’t have any reason to believe they’ll call it. Last one would be trades/fa but haven’t heard any of our players rumoured to go anywhere which if you compare that to last year we were well aware of baker/graham/bolton/rioli rumours.

Gibcus is 10 weeks away and might play a few VFL games

Put him on ice

Let Prestia go out on his terms

That’s my two bobs worth

Agreed. The hysteria over a mid season pick is bit over the top . Seriously guys, it’s not that big a deal

Jai Newcombe says hi.

Any chance to add talent to the list needs to be considered.

We have P3 if we make a spot and as I said earlier it looks like we will be losing some VFL players again.

I'm not sold on any of Mansell, MRJ or Green although I think Green has the most upside.

If Raso is showing potential we should try to sign him up.

So why don’t all clubs participate in it every year?

Is that a rhetorical question or do I really need to suggest reasons why various clubs wouldn't bother?

Or are you just going to take the obtuse and banal position that's it's categorically not worth it and no club should ever bother?

It’s a valid question. If you don’t want to answer it, just move on. The response reeks of a wanna intellect trying too hard.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Fine.

Not all clubs would participate because:
- they have a healthy list (which we don't necessarily) with no spots
- they don't see talented players that suit their current needs
- players that do suit their needs may demand contracts that don't fit the club
- players that suit their needs may not want to move interstate
- players that clubs want may not longer be available at their pick

And probably more.

There you go. Spelled it out for you since you couldn't think of anything yourself.

Star VFL Tiger in mid-season draft mix

The first batch of AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft nominees have been released to clubs ahead of next week's draft

By Callum Twomey
afl.com.au
20 May 2025

Potential early mid-season pick Tom McCarthy is among the first group of nearly 70 players to nominate for the 2025 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

McCarthy's form for Richmond's VFL side has put him firmly on the radar as a No.1 pick contender at the mid-season intake next week, with the likes of West Coast and North Melbourne to consider the mature-age midfielder.

McCarthy has nominated under an 18-month term, with players able to nominate for the mid-season pool under that longer term or a shorter six-month contract just for the second half of 2025.

Sam Toner and Jhett Haeata from our VFL side have also nominated.

Full list of nominees are listed here: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1325846/star-vfl-tiger-former-roo-and-sun-in-mid-season-draft-mix

Absolute stupidity if we don't enter this draft.

Show some leadership Yze and  send Dow or Prestia off the list.

And tell me how exactly 11 games into a season you send a contracted player who only suffered an injury last night, a not too serious one off the list?

As for Presria, he's playing tonight and in his presser Yze said if he gets through that he's available for selection next week. So the only place Prestia is going to be sent is into the AFL team

Who in our vfl team is the next Durham that some other team will value more and give senior opportunities to unearth a potential future star player?
The club that keeps giving.
