Premiership Team in 2032
« on: April 14, 2025, 07:01:40 PM »
Some will say it's too far away but in 2032, Lalor and co are only just hitting into their prime years at 25. Can't see us winning one before that. The list that shapes up I find interesting with some big holes to fill, explicitly, run off half back.

Backs:
B: X, Trainor, X
HB: Brown, Gibcus, 2025 North 1st Pick

Need a Broad type, 3rd defender that can play a variety of roles.
Need 2 running half backs, you can't have one. Bit of a hole in our list at the moment, Short is too old for this side and the other younger guys aren't quick or have good enough skills for September. A big need going forward, Id use North pick next draft for a Toby Trav type.

Mids:
C: Banks, Smillie, Ralphsmith
R: X, Lalor, 2025 1st Pick

Midfield is OK, Banks I'm 50/50 on but think he's developing OK
I don't have Sonsie in here as I fear he won't last however I really want him too. No young ruck is clear yet. Appreciate Sims has good wraps but can't lock him in. I like our strategy of Free Agent / Trade of Ruckman. Our history is solid Bank, Maric, Stafford all have been traded in. Hugo will be 30 in 2032 so unsure whether he will go the journey without exploring options elsewhere or us cashing in on him. Need to bolster mids with top end talent next draft.

Forwards:
HF: Hotton, Faull, Clarke
F: Campbell, Armstrong, X

I have decent wraps on Juddy, his knee gets right and in a good side I reckon he could be real dangerous. He is one potentially could be a running half back. Unsure on his kicking distance ability which is a key for moving the ball from half back at distance. Seth I'm good on, even tho has his critics. Hotton will be a star and the two big boys have shown enough that they'll be best 22. I really Like Fawcett too so so hedging bets either him or Jonty hopefully make it. Harry is a gun and I'm all in on. Lock him in.

Int:
Balta, X, X, X

I don't think many others show they will be part of this tilt, so a bit half pregnant. Balta will be 32 and on his last contract after the 7 year deal finished at 31. He could leave which won't hurt us massively but if he stays as a interchange defender is handy, could start depending. I'd love to put Sonsie here but unsure. Don't have Dow or the other triers.

We aren't far off personal, just need a lot of patience and development. Let's not discount traded in players and FA which as the list builds happens naturally. With Tassie coming in we've been very lucky to create what looks to be 75% of our nucleus for our next dynasty.

Have I missed anyone? Anyone stiff?

I don't care how good the other 20 blokes are, you're not winning flags with Banks and hugo as your wingmen

Won't argue with that, further highlights our need for run and carry ball users. If we have no decent young running half backs and no decent young wingman we've got a massive need there.

Look at Saints:
Sinclair
Wilson
Wangeneen-Milera
Travaglia

4 elite runners and ball carriers. We don't have any yet

We won 2 with KMac so anything's possible. Agree at least not with both of them, might get away with carrying one ( prefer Ralphsmith if I had to choose- played alright yesterday) if there's some quality on the other side. :shh :shh

I don’t think the saints are the example you ever want to use when comparing list makeups to win flags lol.

We are in year 1 of a rebuild. Outside positions mean diddly squat right now and can be filled in later down the track with late draft picks, rookie picks, trades, free agents, failed mids etc. We still need to spend another 2 drafts on key positions and gun mids before even thinking about the outside. I think you’ll see that outside players look much much better in good sides then they do in crap ones as they are mostly just capitalising on other players hard work lol

Core group of Armstrong, Faull, Lalor, smillie, Horton and Trainor would be excellent. History will show that atleast 2 of these guys don’t make it though.

Still not sure exactly what banks brings to the table, just don’t see any stand out traits

i dont think banks, hugo and ross will form any part of this side whatsoever. Gibcus is a wait and see also unformately

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Only blokes at this stage who I think are a chance of being there when we contend again are:

KPF:
Armstrong
Faull
Fawcett
Sims

KPD:
Balta
Gibcus
Brown
Trainor

MID/smaller:
Lalor
Smillie
Alger
Campbell
Hotton

Outside chances to be around or just playing a role, being depth etc:
Taranto
Hopper
Gray
Blight
Young
Green
Lefau
Mansell
McAuliffe
Ross
Ralph
Trezise

KPF all based on potential but where we have taken them we give ourselves a good chance. Odds are one maybe two won't make it

Armstrong
Faull
Fawcett
Sims

KPD The four names below  allow us to trade or clean a few out to make room for other types. Balta will be 32 the only iffy one imo. Imo Gray looks a keeper.

Balta
Trainor
Gibcus
Gray

Rucks. Cannot say with confidence we have one. Ryan ? WORK TO DO.

Tall/medium/sml defenders. Pretty bare cupboard imo if we are looking at premierships  Tons of work needed.

Brown. No way is he a kpd i think he is more like a Broad replacement. With the four kpd's named that is how he should be developed anyway.
Smith. atm he has battled  Not that they have given him  a decent go at it.  He does have great attributes for the hb role though. If he gets there he will be a good long term player.

Tall/medium/sml forwards. reality is there is only one tall in  Bauer and he looks a one trick pony atm and won't make it.The two named are kids and who knows.

Algar
Green worth persevering with for now.

Mids/wings

Lalor
Smillie
Hotton
McAuliffe. Another with great attributes its just taking time imo.
Clarke has great attributes who knows wing hhf. Needs a run at it away from injury
Campbell. wing. Angst  every time he is mentioned away from the fwd half. Imo best sml/fwd we have atm  and would also be our best wing if played there. would also consider seeing across hb.
Taranto would be 34 and unlikely.
This years two top 10 picks are likely to go on mids.

If 2032 is the year then if another tall is an outright standout this year the big picture would say take him. 9 potential mid wings is totally inadequate tons of work needed.

If they are not going to be there then they are expendable and we should be looking to get them out or upgrade on them at the least as we go.
It makes for a long list to turn over.  if the goal is seven years to a flag we have to get a move on. Getting 25 players at least to 80 100 games takes time.

Vlastuin, Hopper, Prestia, Taranto, Short, Lynch, Nankervis, Lefau McIntosh, Broad and Taranto all retired at best and almost certs not to be there in 2032.
