Hawthorn’s method and execution was superior - particularly after half time. I thought effort was really good in the first half but it didn’t look like we had a gameplan
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

SPOONBOWL!

It may only be Round 9 but it’s hard to imagine the Tigers claiming the wooden spoon if they beat the Eagles this week. At some point West Coast will stumble their way to a win or two, but you’d expect Richmond is just as likely to add to their haul over the rest of the season. These teams do face each other again in Round 19 in Perth, and they’ve got games against the Kangaroos too, but a three-win gap will still be very hard to close. At the very least it’d be nice if West Coast could avoid getting smashed on the road again, because a competitive game between lowly teams is always fun in a weird way (like Bombers-North the other night). It’s kinda wild that their best performance of the year was still the game against Brisbane in Brisbane.

Richmond v West Coast Preview

Andrew Slevison
SEN
8 May 2025

Richmond hosts West Coast in the battle of the rebuilds at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers enter as favourites for the first time this season against a winless Eagles outfit coached by Andrew McQualter, who is no stranger to the yellow and black.

The former Richmond assistant and interim coach has seen his Eagles side struggle across their eight games so far in 2025, failing to bank any premiership points while winning just three of 32 quarters.

Adem Yze’s Tigers have similarly struggled at times, but their best form has seen them pocket two against-the-odds victories against Carlton and Gold Coast. Those experiences will be invaluable for the emerging Tiger cubs.

Last week they were humbled by a rampaging Hawthorn having been somewhat competitive in the first half. In order to beat the Eagle, they’ll need to be better for longer and avoid the capitulations that have been evident in their game in recent times.

They can take with them the knowledge that they’ve beaten the Eagles in four of the past five meetings, although they were comfortably beaten by 39 points in Perth in Round 5 last year.

It’ll be a fascinating contest between two clubs reassembling themselves for the future.

Right now, the Tigers seem to be slightly more advanced than the Eagles, and couple that with a home game at the ‘G, you have to side with the yellow and black.

Prediction: Richmond by 10 points.

Interesting test for this group today. See how all these young players respond to the psyche of being favourites, and rightfully we are. We should win today, they know it, so let’s see how that affects them.

Nonetheless exciting display of the future with so many under 50 games still, but Lalor, Faull, Sims,  Trainor, McAulife all under 15 games. Quite remarkable really

Great kick out of defence by Broad to Ross. Opened up the ground. Lynch mark/free = goal  :gotigers.
