Looks great.

Really don't see why we can't wear black shorts as there is no risk of a jumper clash with all that yellow.

Even yellow shorts, never understood why we can't wear full yellow

What it means

Essendon (5-4) was handed a firm reality check as it was dismantled by its bogey side Western Bulldogs but should be most disappointed by its failure to put up a fight late in the contest. The Bombers will be determined to deliver a better performance in the blockbuster clash with the Tigers where a victory will push them to the brink of the top eight with enough time remaining to iron out their flaws.

Richmond (3-7) did about as much as it could to chase down North Melbourne after giving up an early lead before falling painstakingly short of snatching a win that would further justify the path that it is on. But the Tigers will be licking their lips at having another opportunity to continue their early-season momentum as they step under the bright lights of Dreamtime at the 'G to face the wounded Bombers.

Game shapers

Xavier Duursma made a solid start to life with his second club in 15 matches last year but is now coming into his own as more responsibility is thrown his way. The 24-year-old was at times a jack of all trades during his five years with the Power but has now settled onto a wing and is averaging a career-high 20.6 disposals while even being one of few Bombers to stand up against the Dogs.

Seth Campbell could easily fly under the radar as he settles into a Tigers line-up still blessed with the experience of premiership players while now also littered with highly touted draftees. But the livewire is hardly one to shy away from the spotlight as he has booted 17 majors in 10 matches this year while becoming just as well known for his acrobatic goal celebrations.

Early tip: Essendon by 17 points

Essendon v Richmond Preview

Essendon couldn’t have been worse against the Bulldogs last weekend. Their 91-point loss was their second heaviest defeat of the last six seasons.

Champion Data tells us that the Dons attempted 99 tackles and only stuck 46 against the Dogs. So you can be assured that Brad Scott will have them firing in that area for Dreamtime. The positive thing is: the last five times the Dons have lost by 40 or more points they have won the following match.

Richmond was agonisingly close to a fourth win in 2025, however, fell short against North Melbourne last Sunday. They allowed the Roos to kick six first-quarter goals but were solid defensively thereafter. They will lose chief key defender Noah Balta to his court-imposed curfew for this Dreamtime clash though.

The improving Tigers are playing some solid footy under Adem Yze but there will undoubtedly be some hiccups along the way.

Essendon’s two straight Dreamtime wins have been super competitive clashes, bringing the head-to-head back to 12-8 in favour of the Tigers. The Bombers ground out a 12-point win in round 11 last year with Jordan Ridley (currently sidelined) dominant in winning the Yiooken Award.

It was just a matter of a few weeks ago that Scott’s Dons were being lauded for their sturdy defence, which was infiltrated last weekend, and must improve. The Tigers’ best can win this but the inexperienced group, without Tom Lynch (concussed), might come up short.

Prediction: Essendon by 14 points.

Tigers’ burning question: What does their defensive make-up look like without two leaders?

As Noah Balta misses his second game this year with a law-enforced curfew and Jayden Short’s stint on the sidelines continues, Adem Yze’s defence will be lighter on this Dreamtime. Jacob Blight and Campbell Gray look to be the two players who will replace Balta down back, with Luke Trainor perhaps forced to play slightly less of a role intercepting to help lock down on a key forward. As for Short’s spot, it will be interesting to see whether sub Kaleb Smith holds his spot, or emergency James Trezise will be given a reprieve after his omission last weekend. Defensively, the Tigers currently rank 16th for all of points against, inside-50s against and scores per inside-50 against — so without two of their senior campaigners, this will be and extra test.

The cubs can make a statement tonight if they all come to play.

If we are to pull off a massive upset win, we need to get off to a good start. Put Essendon under pressure. They are fragile. The longer we stay in the game, the more the doubts will creep into their heads. Just like the Carlton game in round 1.

The deliberate rule is comical

That Essendon player shanked it and definitely wanted to hit his open teammate

Our forward crumbers need to not get caught flat-footed too close under the pack. It's allowing the Bomber defenders to win the ball at ground level. They need take 5 steps back.
