“Proud of the effort”: Richmond coach commends young Tigers for creating opportunities in close loss

Richmond coach Adem Yze has made a point to commend his young troops for their efforts in the Tigers' close loss to North Melbourne on Sunday, as the Kangaroos escaped with a four-point victory at the MCG.

"This week, we'll review the first quarter and be really proud of the response," Yze said.

"A guy was playing his 200th game that doesn't give up and hasn't given up ever in any game, he fights right to the end, and that's all I wanted our players to do.

"To look Kamdyn in the eye at the end of the game and have played the right attitude and spirit, which they did and just unlucky not to be on the right end of it by the end of the game."

Yze praised McIntosh for his hard work to get to 200 games, specifically across the latest preseason, where the 31-year-old has adjusted to a new midfield role after years across the wing.

The Tigers' coach also reflected that Kamdyn would also be proud of the effort his teammates gave, despite not collecting the four premiership points by the final siren.

"For Kamdyn this season's changed his whole his whole role, and he's worked his butt off to help out midfield crew," Yze said.

"For him to not only play well today, but I think he would understand that the players played for him today and played the right way. Yes, we didn't get the chocolates but I think that he'd be proud of the effort."

Yze spoke highly of his young Tigers, specifically his defenders for standing up towards the end of the game, with a couple of missed shots on goal late the difference-maker by the final siren, rather than a defensive lapse on Richmond's end.

"'Banksy's (Sam Banks) in really good form and he has been throughout the year. He's just growing," Yze said Luke Trainor will become that player. Tom Brown today was very, very good in our back half, and they held up okay.

"They won't be happy with the first quarter and they spoke through that, and they grit their teeth and they wanted to fight and they did that for the back part.

"But Banks has become a player. Sammy Lalor looked really potent again today and Seth Campbell hit the scoreboard and looking like an A-Grade forward. So we need those boys to really develop and really quickly."
