Team Tips:

Pick 1 Sam Lalor (hamstring) and Thomson Dow (kneecap dislocation) won’t tackle the Giants after hurting themselves against the Bombers, with Lalor unfortunately set for four-to-six weeks on the sidelines and Dow set to spend six-to-eight weeks out. The Tigers confirmed Lalor’s hamstring injury was “a reaggravation of his hamstring injury that he sustained prior to coming to the club”.

However, Richmond did say skipper Toby Nankervis (knee) was available to return against the Giants, Tom Lynch (concussion) would be a ‘test’ and Dion Prestia (Achilles) would also be available after a successful VFL outing last Saturday night.

However, defender Jayden Short (calf) hasn’t progressed in his recovery and remains one-to-two weeks away from returning.

With Lynch due to come back, one of Jonty Faull, Tom Sims or even Luke Trainor could go back to the VFL — unless Trainor is swung back into defence — while Samson Ryan seems a near-certainty to make way for Nankervis, while Maurice Rioli might be vulnerable.

Prestia hadn’t played at any level this year until Saturday night, where he kicked one goal from 20 disposals, 12 contested possessions and four clearances from three quarters in the VFL.

Elsewhere from that match, Jasper Alger kicked 2.1 from 13 disposals as he continues to push for a debut, while Tyler Sonsie (37 disposals, eight tackles) and Jacob Blight (26 disposals, 13 intercepts and nine marks) and James Trezise (21 disposals) were all huge in a 22-point win. Sonsie seems a likely inclusion given his reserves form and the medium-term absences of Lalor and Dow.

Will say this first IT WON'T HAPPEN but id be happy if it did.

Vlastuin - Gray - Broad
Banks - Miller - Brown

HRS - Taranto - Clarke
Nankervis - McAuliffe - Prestia

Campbell - Faull - Algar
Blight - Lynch - Mansell

Sonsie - Hopper - Ross - Smith - McIntosh/Trezise.

Ins - Clarke, Algar, Blight , Lynch , Sonsie, Nankervis, Prestia.
Out - Rioli omitted, Lalor inj, Dow inj, Ryan omitted, Green omitted, Trainor banged up rested, Sims good block but needs a break as well.

Its a more experienced side but importantly it rewards good VFL form and is mostly like for like replacements.
Prestia, Sonsie for Lalor and Dow.
Blight for Sims who needs a rest so does Faull imo.
Lynch for Trainor who looks banged up and definately needs a rest and played tall forward last week.
Nankervis for Ryan Bit od a no brainer that one
Algar for Rioli another no brainer.
Clarke for Green who is struggling badly.

Like the team, esp Blight and hope Sonsie gets a decent run in the guts

Not bad, but I think I'd be playing Blight + Gray in the backline, maybe try Brown forward he's such a good kick.

Not convinced Prestia needs to come straight back in - he's played about half a VFL match, I'd give him another week to build up the minutes.

Would consider keeping Sims in so Nank has a chop out, play him forward with Lynch and Faull. Could possibly leave Brown in the backline and just rotate some of those talls.

Nope no need for both they won't drop Miller anyway. Brown is finding his feet and starting to look like a first round pick no need to move him.
Picked Prestia because i think that is the way they will go.

Blight plays for sims the young fella gets a rest and we give Nank a chop out whith Blighty. Blight gets a much deserved game albeit forward. Never could work out why they stopped the experiment after just one game of Blight forward. It also means we could play him back if we needed to offering up a bit of flexability.

Our young talls are looking a bit frayed imo including Faull with Sims and in particular Trainor.
A few weeks off in the magoos getting some ball and less intensity will do them the world of good.
Sonsie and Prestia as mids replace Dow and Lalor.Shame about sammy.

In the Mix: Round 12

There’ll be at least three changes at Tigerland this week. Skipper Toby Nankervis (knee) is available after a week off managing an ongoing knee issue, and is likely to be a straight swap for Samson Ryan. No.1 pick Lalor has re-injured his hamstring, an issue which first flared prior to being drafted. Dow will need some time for his dislocated kneecap to settle before a firm timeline is confirmed, while it has been confirmed Smillie will miss the next 6-8 weeks, inclusive of a conditioning block for the 19-year-old. Dion Prestia (Achilles) and Tylar Young (ACL) made successful returns in the VFL. Tyler Sonsie has been knocking down the door for an AFL return, with 37 disposals and a goal on Saturday, while Mykelti Lefau kicked two in his second game back from an ACL and could be an option if one of Tom Sims or Jonty Faull need a rest.

Tiger stars set to return

By Luke Sicari
RFC website

Richmond is set to welcome back a trio of premiership stars this weekend for its clash with GWS.

Captain Toby Nankervis was managed in last week’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash, Tom Lynch missed through concussion, and Dion Prestia made his return to the field through the VFL, with all three of them in the mix for selection ahead of Saturday’s game at ENGIE Stadium.

Prestia amassed 20 disposals and kicked a goal in the VFL’s victory over Essendon, his first game of the season.

“I saw him in black and yellow, which was nice,” Yze said of Prestia.

“He got through the game, he got through the minutes that we wanted. His running numbers were very good, and now it's just going to be how he pulls up, we've got our main session today.

“He did everything right and everything we asked of him, so if he gets through today, he'll be available and straight back into our team.”

Nankervis was managed through a knee complaint, and Yze explained how the Club needed to provide the skipper with a block of rest to avoid the ailment getting worse.

“Obviously excited to have our captain back, but we're more excited by the fact that he's pulled up really well,” Yze said.

“The plan all along was to look after him. He's been battling and been carrying that for a couple of weeks. We broke the cycle, and he's feeling really good, which is the most important thing.

“Now that he's available, he's great for us. Taking the pain away and hopefully he can get through the rest of the season without that pain is a great result.”

Lynch has worked his way through the concussion protocols and will be a welcome addition back into the Tigers’ forward line.

“He’s obviously gone through the protocols, ticked every box up until today, and he'll get through training, and he'll be available to play if he gets through today,” Yze said of Lynch.

The coach added having the trio of leaders back is “really important” for the road trip, which will see both the AFL and VFL teams travelling together ahead of the double-header against the Giants on Saturday.
