Again...at $2.71 against the Swans? Have never bet on the footy but that's worth a punt!

They're forecasting rain all weekend, wonder what impact that will have on not just the game but our game style?

The Tigers are kicking themselves after narrowly losing to GWS over the weekend, despite holding a 28-point lead at the final change.

It follows honourable losses to Essendon and North Melbourne in the previous weeks.

But the upcoming challenge against Sydney poses as another winnable contest, albeit against one of last year's grand finalists.

The Swans' fall from grace sees them sit 14th on the ladder with eight wins, and they are fresh off a 90-point thumping from Adelaide.

"We understand what's coming," Yze said.

"They obviously had the performance they had on the weekend, but we're planning for their best.

"But for a young group like us, we're more worried about how we play, not who we're playing."

Tigers prepare for Swans’ “best”

Richmond coach Adem Yze says the side is preparing for the Sydney Swans’ “best” on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides enter the Round 13 clash coming off defeats, with the Tigers suffering a nail-biting loss to the GWS Giants, while the Swans were taken down by 90-points by the Adelaide Crows.

Despite Sydney's drop in form, Yze expects last year’s Grand Finalists to be at their best and is looking forward to the challenge that awaits.

“You always do (expect a response). They're a proud footy club and they made the Grand Final for a reason, so we'll plan on them bringing their best,” Yze said.

“They have got some talent in there...we understand what's coming.

“They obviously had the performance they had on the weekend but we're planning for their best. The opportunity to give some of our younger players the chance to play on some All-Australians…we're doing that, and we have been doing that throughout the season.

“We'll obviously go head-to-head with our midfield crew against them, but at some stage it'll be nice to see some of our younger players leaning against some of their superstars.”

Yze added that the Tigers will always be “more worried about how we play, not who we're playing” as he continues to guide the team on a new and exciting journey.

The coach also discussed the recent strong performances of Richmond’s VFL side, which is creating healthy competition for spots amongst the senior side.

“We've got some boys that are in really good form and that's what we want as a footy club,” Yze said.

“We want to perform well in the AFL team, but we need pressure from underneath, and our VFL team had a great win on the road. We've got some boys that are in really good form, which obviously then creates pressure on the boys that are in the team.”

Richmond v Sydney Preview

Lachlan Geleit
SEN
6 June 2025

If you looked at this fixture a few months ago, you’d expect both teams to be at opposite ends of the ladder.

Instead heading into Round 13, these teams are separated by just two spots, and Richmond enters as the most in-form of the two.

The Tigers' most recent result came against GWS where they led for almost the entire game before falling at the final hurdle. They had seven more scoring shots and 11 more inside 50s but were unable to hang on for a famous win on the road.

Meanwhile, Sydney last went down by a whopping 90 points to Adelaide at home on the celebration of the club's 2005 premiership. It was an embarrassing defeat.

Even though the Swans won the clearance count last week, they were smashed by the Crows on the spread, ultimately losing inside 50s by 25, while giving up 10 more scoring shots.

If Richmond can use the wide expanses of the MCG to their advantage, this is where they’ll hope to punish a Sydney side that’s out of sorts. Sydney will hope that their star midfielders Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner are too hot to handle for a Richmond on-ball unit that’s solid - especially after the return of Dion Prestia - but is without real x-factor.

If Heeney and Warner can impact forward of centre, that’s probably also Sydney’s ticket to kicking a real winning score.

Despite everything going against the Swans right now, they deserve to enter as favourites, partly because of where both sides are at in their development timelines.

Even though the pick is Sydney, it wouldn’t stun if the Tigers were able to cause another MCG upset as they did when the teams met at the venue last season.

Prediction: Sydney by 20 points.

Kicks inside 50 are going to be the story again aren’t they. When our most experienced fwd in lynch panics and just kicks to no one, what hope do we have

It's not AFL standard.
