RICHMONDIt’s only been positive news at Punt Road in recent weeks, with the Tigers re-signing a host of young talent once again since our last club update.
Defender Sam Banks has flourished in recent weeks and earned himself a deal until the end of 2027, while Liam Fawcett has signed a one-year deal into 2026.
Given the expectation that Richmond would be well entrenched with their rebuild this year, Punt Road hasn’t been the final destination that it once was for players on the move — but that could already be changing.
The future recruitment of Harley Reid will only become more and more likely over time, however West Coast’s number one pick from the 2023 draft has been linked to several Victorian clubs. But with plenty of money to splash and a serious amount of potential in the coming years, the Tigers could well be a point of attraction for the young gun — should he choose to move back to his home state sometime in the next 18 months.
Teammate Thomson Dow is one still without a contract beyond 2025, and while he’ll miss a substantial period due to a kneecap dislocation, it looks likely that he’s still done enough to earn a new deal.
Mid-season draftee Jacob Blight has shown plenty of promise down back as well, and surely deserves a new contract too.
Seven’s Mitch Cleary reported recently that the Tigers have started early talks on a one-year extension at Punt Road for Tom Lynch, however the future is less clear for fellow veterans Dion Prestia and Kamdyn McIntosh. Both have a genuine case to keep playing next year — and quite possibly beyond — but staying fit and healthy between now and then will be the biggest factor in their future.
The likes of Campbell Gray, Tyler Sonsie, Tylar Young, and Jacob Bauer will all be hoping to continue their AFL careers also with a new deal.
