Richmond v St Kilda Preview

I guess Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is worth the price of admission.

Apart from that, there's not much going for this game apart from both sets of fans sniffing another potential win to finish off the season.

For the Tigers, after a few solid weeks, they came back down to earth last weekend on the Gold Coast, losing to the Suns by 84 points.

Even though the Tigers seem destined to finish somewhere from 15th to 17th, Richmond fans would be fairly pleased with how their season has gone with the young group picking up five wins and showing positive signs.

As for St Kilda, they can make it three straight here after two incredibly tight wins over both Melbourne and North Melbourne under the roof at Marvel Stadium.

The main man behind those wins has no doubt been Wanganeen-Milera with the young star all but certain now to lock in an All-Australian berth.

Even though the Saints have only won one of their last five at the MCG, they deserve to go in pretty warm favourites in this game.

While Richmond have a chance if their defence plays as it did from Round 18 to 20 where they gave up an average of 62 points, the Saints probably have a bit too much class, particularly in transition with Wanganeen-Milera and Jack Sinclair.

Realistically, the Saints should be leaving the ‘G with their eighth win of the season should they play anywhere near their capabilities.

Prediction: St Kilda by 30 points.

Barrett stating the bleedingly obvious.

IF ...
Taranto, Lynch and Broad are the ins for Saturday's game against the Saints ...

THEN ...
surely the Tigers are a chance. Instantly, look a whole better on paper.

'A lot to play for' against Saints

Richmond coach Adem Yze admits that the side took a backward step last week, but is refusing to allow it to carry over against St Kilda on Saturday.

The Tigers welcome back three veterans in Tim Taranto, Nathan Broad and Tom Lynch for the clash at the MCG, which offers a needed boost.

"We've got to make amends for last week's performance. We're looking week-to-week, we're not looking at a block of games," Yze said on Friday.

"We weren't happy with the way we performed last week. We felt like we took a step backwards.

"We get a chance to make amends this weekend, and all we're looking at is the way we'll play against St Kilda and provide a contest that our Tiger Army are proud of."

And while priorities aren't on September for either side, it hasn't dampened the spirit in Yze's men to compete.

"Both teams aren't playing for finals, but there's a lot to play for," he said.

"They'll be talking about the exact same thing, finishing off the season in the right way and hopefully we can just do it better tomorrow."

Excitingly, the playing group is also feeling refreshed after a week back at home.

"Our players have had a good week, they've got some energy and spirit, and we're looking to bring that tomorrow," Yze said.

But Yze knows he'd be silly to think a game against the Saints, who have been in strong form in recent weeks, will be simple.

"The last two or three weeks, they've (St Kilda) been really competitive. You can see what they did in the last quarter against Melbourne," Yze said.

"We understand their strengths and understand where our opportunities lie.

"We're in a process right now that we want to play a certain way. We'll go in backing ourselves and backing our system."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Richmond (5-15) and St Kilda (7-13) are both out of finals contention, but the Saints are riding high on the back of consecutive wins inspired by Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera.

Like Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell before him, Yze said the St Kilda superstar had been giving him nightmares during the planning process.

"He had me up at two o'clock this morning thinking about it," Yze said.

"But we're in a process right now where we want to play a certain way and we'll go in backing ourselves and backing our system.

"We'll keep an eye on how much impact he's having."

If there is a team more frustrating to watch than our own it’s a Ross Lyon coached team.

Basic skill errors from Vlastuin, Lynch and Mcintosh.

We really need to get the ball into the hands of our skilled players.

Short easy turnover now. So all our leaders can’t hit targets, what hope do we have

Quarter time

Richmond   1.0-6
St Kilda      3.2-20

Goal: Mansell

Well that was pathetic  :help. 22 mins to score and that goal is our only score :facepalm. Just 10 tackles = lack of workrate = bruise free footy. Lucky to be only 14 pts down.

I don't know what Yze is saying to the boys but lack of intent comes down to the coach and the coaching staff.

If that crap is allowed at our club then the whole lot of them cap pee off and we need to get a couching group that have some base line standards that the team is expected to attain as the norm.
The club that keeps giving.
