Yze laments missed chance

ADEM Yze wasn't interested in talk about an honourable loss for his young Richmond side on Saturday afternoon.

Instead, it was a missed opportunity.

After giving up the first three goals of the game, the Tigers came to life, only to fall to St Kilda by four points.

"They were better than us in the first quarter, but the adjustments and the response for the final three quarters felt like we got the game on our terms," Yze said.

"(I) feel like we could have won the game, probably should have won the game, and obviously that's a bitter pill to swallow."

Yze was determined that the Tigers were "the better team" after the first break, but couldn't make it count on the scoreboard late in the game when a sixth win of the season was up for grabs.

The team's inconsistency week to week is something Yze is still grappling with.

"We live week to week and right now, we feel like we left one out there. So, at the end of the season we'll review the season based on how we felt we went each week," he said.

"There's been games where we haven't been up to standard, there's been quarters that haven't been up to standard against really good teams, and then there's been games like this, where we feel like we should have won the game, or could have won the game.

"And then the GWS game (in round 12) was exactly the same, so I don't care how many games we win or lose, but we just want to play a certain way and today I felt like we played the right way. We just didn't get the result."

Yze confirmed that he opted not to utilise substitute Steely Green to keep the small forward fresh for a run in the VFL on Saturday night.

There should be no "could have" won the game, excuse

It should be all the way through the presser we "should have" have won that game

Horribly let down by senior players in the last 2-3 minutes

I don't think he used it as an excuse.
But what's scary is they enter the Saints game thinking they "could" win. Does that mean against better opposition he doesn't think they can win?

No, he has said in every presser (pregame) we going into every game to win

There's no doubt that a few senior players messed it up badly in the last few minutes, in a way I'd rather see that than having a young bloke blow it.  And to know that he blew it.  Its better that the senior guys carry that one.

Lets not forget that right angle bounce that went through for a goal against us in the last quarter ... that's a pretty cheesy way to win a game!   That ball bounces straight on & we win!
Anyway, the last time we played StKilda they belted us by 82 points ...
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!

Of course going into every game trying to win. But the way his comments read is that he felt a game against a side like the Saints is one we could win. Does that mean he thinks games against better sides we cant?

Can someone ask him in these pressers why we got destroyed in tackle count and are the lowest tackling team in the league by total and average.

Reckon you are overthinking it a fraction. “Could have” seemed to be more about “We put ourselves into a position ” in the game comment rather than going into the game
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”
