Grieser is a massive disappointment.

She is massive woman but has absolutely no clue in how to use her frame to her advantage.

For some unknown reason I counted about 6 clear push in the backs our players using to take a mark.

Whoever is our key position player coach should be sacked.

It's a useless sorry excuse of domination in the air that we should have had if we had any idea how to utilise that to our advantage.

Our forwards coach is Fev. He was bought in for all the reasons you mentioned.

But let's be honest it wouldn't make one iota of difference with the diabolical game plan ( if you can call it that) we have

What a terrible game and spectacle for women’s footy

There was a lot to hate but the umpires continually blowing the whistle in just about every contest destroyed the game

If the club had any balls they would sack Fergie and anyone else in control straight after this game

That's true WP, but we lost one of best mids in Sheerin, our few rated players are getting older, and anyone who has watched us so far this year knows we will finish bottom 4.

Yep but the question has to asked why was Sherrin let go?

The reasons the club gave don't wash

So her going for the deal we ended up falls on Sheahan

We are a rabble

You may be right but you may have missed the amount of times our players clearly pushed the player in front of them in the back. Some were paid by the umpires and most were missed.

That is a clear instruction from someone. I noticed it last week and it was even more noticeable this week.

Grieser hasn't improved one iota at Richmond she's gotten worse because unlike other clubs our club does NOT take this competition seriously.

I do agree that our coach   :wallywink  is rubbish and the girls have no idea out there.
Off the top of my head there was about 5 clear times we kick to an out number.  :help

We also have very very poor skills. Beside the obvious player there isn't many that can mark a footy or kick or handpass the ball effectively.

I'd say one of the major culprits is Eagan, she is a terrible example of skill.

She consistently misses an easy handpass and she regularly kicks to an outnumber not to mention she is slow as treacle.

......meanwhile every bottom feeder club AFL assisted handout club has a VFLW program.  :rollin
I've asked the Club online at our past 3 AGMs why we don't have one and have always got a nothing answer. That was when we still had Port Melbourne as our affiliated VFLW club, but we've even dumped them this year and have no ressies whatsover now.

15 years ago, we were told the men's team 30 years of failure was due to not having our own standalone VFL side to properly develop our younger players and have them learn at VFL level the same gameplan used at AFL level. So, where's our standalone VFLW team?!

We were also told 15 years ago that not investing both personnel wise and financially in a recruiting team and leaving it to one person was why we had so many misses year after year in the men's draft. So, why is Kate Sheahan who has failed year after year still there and where is the investment in a proper recruiting team?!

All up this shows that the Club treats our women's program with contempt. The Club is now reaping what it has sowed as WP said.

IMO, it feels like the Club has sacrificed the women's program as part of cost cutting to fill the $$$ gap for the delayed Punt Rd redevelopment. They've gotten away with it because "it's only AFLW". If this was done to the men's program, heads would roll - not just the dud coach & recruiter but also at management and Board level.

See this where I can't agree and to suggest we have cut spending in the women's program is simply not true.

We pay in FULL, the soft cap and the salary cap.

So for me at least the question is where is the money going? Clearly not in the areas it needs to.

I believe there are other AFL clubs that may have pulled the pin on their VFLW sides as well but I haven't been stuffed to research that. Will do sometime in the next week.

The answer I got early this AFL season (Club XIII season lainch) when I asked was that the VFLW season and AFLW season don't align so the majority of our list either (1) wouldn't be allowed to play under the CBA and (2) if they did it would only be 2 games. While part of me understands that argument part of me reckons it's a cop out

All I know is after today's embarrassing effort I feel cheated.

I'd argue There is no one on this site who has been more supportive, passionate about our Club's Women’s program than me. Hell I was there for our very first women's praccy game down at a wet, freezing Williamtown when we launched our VFLW side (the 2 season before got our AFLW licence) but right now that passion and support is bordering on being non existent.

Today I'm embarrassed to say I was a foundation member of our women's program.

And I'm equally relieved I'm no longer a player sponsor.

Tigers fall to 0-2

Richmond: Scott, Greiser, Shevlin
Western Bulldogs: Grigg, McDonald, Stephenson, Gavalas, Woodley, Pritchard

Richmond: Conti, McKenzie, Kelly, Seymour
Western Bulldogs: Pritchard, Grant, Fitzgerald, Wilcox, Grigg, Kimber

INJURIES
Richmond: Scott (ankle)
Western Bulldogs: Nil

---------------------------------------------

The Western Bulldogs have consigned finals hopeful Richmond to a 0-2 start, out-working the Tigers in a 21-point win at IKON Park on Sunday.

It was a tightly fought contest for most of the day in near-perfect conditions, until the Dogs put the foot down in the final term while holding the Tigers scoreless, securing the 6.6 (42) to 3.3 (21) victory.

Fierce tackling was the order of the day, with the Bulldogs especially making sure their defensive efforts hit the mark.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities early, locking the ball inside their attacking ends for large periods of the first term, but just couldn't find the middle of the sticks, with a number of shots dribbling out of play and not scoring at all.

Paige Scott kicked their first goal in Richmond colours after a strong chase-down tackle, showing composure to slot the shot after the quarter-time siren.

Scott's game appeared to have finished less than a quarter later when their ankle collided with Lauren Ahren's leg at high speed, but they re-emerged after the main break.

Sarah Hartwig found a rare bit of space in the second term, taking two bounces, until her third didn't quite come back to her – it was that sort of game, with a lot of full-hearted efforts from both sides that didn't quite come off.

Western Bulldogs sent defender Liz Georgostathis to Monique Conti (21 disposals, six clearances) at the opening centre bounce, and while it wasn't a completely hard tag, the tenacious Dog made life difficult for the superstar in her 75th game around the contest.

The Dogs took a seven-point lead into the final break after Ellie Gavalas took advantage of a scrap in front of her side's goals, pouncing accordingly.

They had all the running in the final term, with Heidi Woodley sealing the game with five minutes left.

Reigning Dogs best and fairest Isabelle Pritchard (19 disposals, seven clearances) was superb in her second game back from a knee injury, working well in tandem with Jess Fitzgerald, while Isabelle Grant patrolled the backline and quelled Katie Brennan.

Richmond's forward line question mark

The Tigers failed to take a single mark inside 50, despite the presence of Brennan, Caitlin Greiser and Scott. Full-back Bec Miller was again thrown into attack on occasion to provide a marking target, but it's the second game in a row where the forward line has struggled to land a proper blow.

Up next

The Tigers now travel to the Top End, taking on Essendon in Darwin to open the two-week Indigenous Round celebrations on Friday night.

Mental strength a worry for Tigers

By Sarah Black
afl.com.au
Aug 24, 2025

RICHMOND coach Ryan Ferguson has said his side needs to be mentally stronger, as the Tigers wobbled to a 0-2 start after falling to a young Western Bulldogs side by 21 points on Sunday.

The Tigers – who made an elimination final last year – were out-hunted around the ball, and most damningly, lost the tackle count by 20 despite being second to the footy for most of the match.

"It was tough only because it just didn't feel like we ever got anything going – the plans we went in with for the game, we either didn't execute consistently or didn't have opportunities to execute because of our fundamentals," Ferguson said.

"Way too many free kicks (conceded), we dropped marks, we fumbled and then we didn't have the chance to use the space. It just felt like we never really got anything going.

"That contested ball, post-clearance – in the end, I feel like you can go to the stories or the whys, versus stay on task, stay the course. Ultimately, they were more consistent over four quarters, their mental game as well as their footy game. That's what we've get to work with, being mentally strong, and hold consistent for four quarters and every moment – I think that's a sign you're not on task.

"We looked like a team that was low on confidence, that's what it looked like. But the fact is, we've got what we need, we've got the weapons that we need, we've got the game that we need and we just need to take accountability for ourselves and for our team. We're in this together, and we can turn it around really quickly, but we just need to make sure we commit to that.

The forward line failed to take a mark inside 50 after losing the same count 4-12 in last week's loss to Sydney.

"The reality is we didn't have much supply. It was played between the arcs a fair bit, but I think we were over minus-10 inside 50s," he said.

"We only had maybe 21 inside 50s, so we didn't get much supply. When we did, it was either poorly executed, or the wrong decision or we weren't in the right spot."

Paige Scott will be monitored after a heavy collision between their leg/shin and that of Lauren Ahrens, with the Tiger spending some time off the field for treatment. They returned to play out the game.
