Ramps' not future Richmond premiership players
« on: July 01, 2006, 10:07:38 PM »
This is just my opinion but there comes a time when you just gotta say...i think this player isnt gonna be in our next premiership side. Thats not to say hes no good and its not to say the player has nothing to offer just that for us I just dont think we can move on with quite afew of them. Mind you if you knew some of the names I have in mind you guys would go ape droppings.

One thing I will say is that you gotta know when to move players on. Its abit like the stockmarket...sell high buy low. Some players have big years and dont improve much afterwards- your best sell date is the trade after that good year or the 2nd year at the latest. After that if the player has just become standard then its over. Value falls and youve missed the boat. When we get the balls to work that out and not just be ordinary and be happy with being ordinary then we will seriously improve our lot.

Well I named 12 names in the list, 2 I know can play in Hughes and Oakley Nicholls- I know they can play because I followed sport as a kid watching both AFL and Soccer, and watching lots of junior games in both, and I know I dont need folders full of crap to tell me who can sort of play and who cant but anyway...Hughes and Oakley-Nicholls can play. Casserley, I havent seen much of and Im not gonna sacrifice any kid without giving a proper chance (I must be getting more sensible in my older age lol) So that means that 9 players already got listed as not being in Richmonds next Premiership side.

1) Moore,
2) Hartigan,
3) Limbach,
4) Humm,
5) Roach,
6) Rodan,
7) Chaffey,
8) Howat,
9) McGuane,

Stafford (Retirement) makes 10

Gaspar (Traded or Delisted or Retired) makes 11

Daniel Jackson (Where will he play, what position, what job role in the team- hasnt really improved in last 12 months) makes 12

Trent Knoble (tries hard, but do any of us believe he'll be there on a Grand Final Day for Richmond) makes 13

Nathan Foley (In and under, busts a gut, tries hard, a goer, but he isnt gonna be their either) makes 14

Andrew Krakouer (Not impacting, dont know where his headed, wont be there on a Grand Final Day makes 15

Greg Tivendale (Improved this year, Sell Sell Sell, stock price at its highest, 1 good year doesnt cover up 3 or 4 not so good ones makes 16

Ray Hall makes 17- We wont win a Premiership with Ray. Tries hard. Good run, but wont be there on the big day. We need a Premiership CHB and FB. Ray at the moment isnt that and hes not a Ruckman.

drumroll....my shock selection

Shane Tuck (Hasnt gone on from last year, just treading water again. Effective enough though to keep his trade value decent. In stock market terms his PE is high now, so It may be time to cash out).

So thats 18 players who for mine are not future Richmond premiership players.

While i dont disagree with your comments there Ramps on all of those players, history shows us that ALL premiership teams include a bunch of players very similar to some of those listed in your post.

We are NEVER going to have 22 superstars in our team, i know we all understand that but i suppose that 3-4 of those players may end up Richmond Premiership players.

I could also be an instant millionaire tomorrow  ;D

I thought you'd say one of Tuck or Cogs  :shh.

I can see us trading a surprise name but I can't see Tucky being one of them given he is a inside midfielder and our only one now that Cogs has done his knee. He is also in that middle age bracket that we have so few players in. 18 names also means there are plenty ahead of him who'll be offloaded over the next 2-3 drafts.

Only 22 play in the Premiership...we can't have a list of 36 that are all gonna be best 22. Some squad players like Hall are needed.

My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.

I really like to thank the mods for giving this its own thread when I stuck it in the middle of nowhere to begin with lol  ;D. I fully understand that all premiership sides need hard workers and some players get lucky like Darryl Freame, but for mine, when someone can list almost 20 players as I have done, then it shows we are still a long long way away. So yes, you guys are correct that you need squad players- clubs need 28-30 senior players who can play at the level not just 22, but again I reiterate, we have to many of this calibre, and Id expect infact that most of the players I have named on the list will have disappeared over the next 2 national drafts.

Coughlan would of also been in the mix but his knee means we keep him for now. I agree on Tuck, plenty ahead of him to get the chop, and he is an inside midfielder at about the right age, but you gotta give something to get something, and I reckon...right about now is going to be the best price we are going to be able to demand for tuck or maybe a combination of players which include Tucky.

Pettifer has improved, seriously improved with the new coaching panel. Sadly most of the listed players I have named havent improved substantially enough for me  to think they will be in Richmonds next premiership side. Today was a  good win. But how many of my listed players here were very good today. Tuck maybe, Krakouer was serviceable, Foley was serviceable. The rest really didnt impact, infact most didnt play lol.

Tivendale. He took Coughlan's place in and under in the middle and won hands down.
