Runs 2k before every game -

" “Eventually it was about finding a balance for high intensity endurance training.

“It’s about getting warm and feeling comfortable before each game and being mentally ready.

“I feel like I go out there physically and mentally prepared - you start and you’re ready to go. “It gets me in the zone - it’s eight to 10 minutes you can have to yourself and lock in before each game.

“I want to find a rhythm and get to self assess before a game in terms of areas I want to focus on but a lot of the time it’s getting out there and shaking off the nerves and at the same time getting physically prepared.”

Pardon my ignorance, how did we get pick 99?

you have as many draft picks as you have spots available on list, weve delisted Koschitzke & Kapsy retired so we get those selections at the end of the draft, Round 5 & 6 etc

The Cats are pleased to see Retschko get a new opportunity at another Club after previously advising him he would not be offered a contract for 2026.

Really like this. Kid is a player we have obviously tracked since junior years. He continues to track well and he obviously must have afl traits and attributes.

Would love to know his combine type results or how he would test in things like pace agility and ball use. Looks a real nice size and if he is one we have seen something about him for awhile why not get him like this?

central.rookieme.com's profile from Retschko's draft year.

------------------

#4Patrick Retschko

height: 186cm
D.O.B: 28-02-2006
Leagues: AFL U18 Championships, Coates Talent League Boys

STRENGTHS:

+ Endurance
+ Outside running
+ Size
+ Versatility

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Defensive acts
- Kicking

A strong preseason had Patrick Retschko's name on everybody's lips, with the hard-running utility primed to make a significant step in his top-age campaign. He ended up performing strongly across multiple levels, proving a mainstay for Vic Metro, Oakleigh Chargers, and Carey Grammar.

Retschko's running ability is just about second to none. He would be seen warming up by running laps of the field, already getting a couple of kilometres under his belt before adding another 15 in-game. It translates to relentless outside run which creates enormous transitional drive.

A 6:07 2km time trial only confirmed his elite endurance at the state draft combine. That kind of base meant his game would be applicable to a variety of roles this season. Starting on the wing, he also had a go running off half-back and through midfield, where his rests would be spent up forward.

Retschko has the size to impact at stoppages and around the ground, often taking strong overhead grabs. He could perhaps enhance the defensive side of his game with more pressure acts and the like, especially if he is to play down back. Kicking on the run is another improvement area, as his execution tends to waver.

DRAFT RANGE: Late/Rookie
