There is no way he will join Richmond.
So it’s an irrelevant conversation

Idk why people keep saying this.

We are not favorites but can offer him crazy money upfront. Playing in front of 90000. Talented kids. Etc.

“Our club is serious about getting better," Yze said on Thursday. "Whether that means you're bringing in free agents or established players, or going into the draft again with a really strong draft hand.“

The last comment is interesting given before season started he was saying “no limits”.
A strong draft hand implies a low ladder position which feels like a limit.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

I’ll tell you why.
If it’s money, Port have stated they will match any offer.

So that removes money.

The crowd thing - we ain’t getting 90k to a game anytime soon.

And I will add, we are a basket case. A complete joke.
He isn’t coming to a club where the ceo thinks our continous year after year injury list is an “accident “ and playing under a coach who one minute says “no limits” and the next minutes says “a great draft hand” which implies limits.

It’s actually laughable

@AFL

Adem Yze has confirmed his club's interest in Port Adelaide superstar Zak Butters

 :lol

That’s about as relevant as Tigeritis demanding standards from our players
Not just the players HRT, it’s the coaching staff, the whole footy department and CEO. It’s high standards all round.

It works just ask Benny Gale  :rollin

From Barrett's Sliding Doors column:

IF ...
the Tigers have entered the race for Zak Butters ...

THEN ...
they'd better start winning matches. He's not going to a club that has won just seven of its past 50.

"If they are serious Richmond, they will be unbelievably hard to beat in this (race for Zak Butters)."

- Hutchy has a Richmond pitch for Zak Butters that might just work...

Hutchy's proposal ignores one huge thing. Who do we have to give up? Butters is restricted FA. Port has said they will match any offer. So to get Butters will we have to trade and Port will want  more than picks, they will want at least 1 maybe 2 players. And they will demand our young talent. Who do we give up?

Would love Butters but not if it means giving up our top end young talent

I don’t think he will come as we are a basket case but ….

If he wants money AND go home no matter what then we can leverage a number 1 pick to Port which they are going to need to get Dougie Cochrane
They will probably end up with pick 6 or 7 based on current form which means their 2 picks probably won’t be enough points to get Cochrane without trading.
We can probably get their first rounder back the other way and if it’s a top 5 pick we can throw in our second rounder (looks like we will get 2 with compo coming in).

If they don’t want to play ball then we grab him in the December draft

1.6 won't get it done if TDK is on 1.7 and NWM on 2.0

I mean it’s never gonna happen but he’s justifying it by it being so heavily front loaded. He broke it down year by year and I think year 1 was something crazy like 4.5mil.

Money now better than money later of course.

Strange things happen in sport sometimes. Always a chance in a 3/4 horse race.

Like Craig Hutchison has a indicated. It's not laughable.

Richmond by far will be able to offer the best package. Pick 1 plus future first? I doubt he cares what the CEO says about injuries.

Also an unprecedented, front ended contract. Talk is cheap at this stage. Big money for port to match, if they can. And then,  they have to invest in a guy that wants to live in Victoria...

If you get some luck and cumming. Grlj. Smillie etc. can get healthy
 - lalor (apparently friends ) Taranto. Butter looks pretty competitive mix on paper?

If the new rules are implemented they will find it difficult to land Dougie Cochrane

I hope that I am wrong but reckon I am spot on. I do think the minute he decides to leave it changes the conversation as our number 1 will become hot property with other clubs

Insane deal Butters won't be able to resist

By SEN
14 April 2026

Death, taxes and weekly discussions on the future of Port Adelaide star Zak Butters (umpire saga aside).

But could one club be preparing to offer the biggest contract in league history for the 25-year-old who is set to become the most in-demand free agent at the end of the season.

While some view Geelong and the Western Bulldogs as the top suitors for Butters, the Agenda Setters panel discussed a rumoured offer being prepared by Richmond who, given their current young squad, would be in a position to offer a mouth-watering front-loaded deal.

Craig Hutchison initiated the discussion on Monday night's show suggesting the Tigers could table up to $4.5 million for Butters in year one.

“Well, he’s leaving (Port), that’s clear," Hutchison said. "It’s just a matter of who. I was interested to see the revelations that Richmond has emerged. If they are serious Richmond, they will be unbelievably hard to beat (for Butters' signature).

"Here's a very interesting set of circumstances, Richmond, that no one's ever had in history probably to this degree given the volume of draft picks they bought in. This is how they make a knockout punch.

"Now, let's assume the market's $1.6 (million) to be respectful. Now, I know some are saying it’s $2 million, I think it's about $1.6 million, the market. Seven years feels about right. 26 to 33 years, given the way he plays, it's probably reckless to offer anything longer than that.

"The Tigers have got a five-year strategy that involves a flag, that's a period of time they think they'll come good in. And they've got all this talent, they've got all these, first round draft picks that aren't being paid much.

"Captain day one for me I think. He’s the right leader. Don't wait, similar to Chris Judd at Carlton in you come and lead the team, and I'm sure Nank (Toby Nankervis) can hand it over.

"Elite draft picks they got now are all on the smaller pay scale. Now, this whole game here is get Zak and pay as much money as you can physically cope with and handle in the first two years, to get that money out of the way before the talent matures."

Nick Riewoldt: “Four and a half (million) in year one!”

Hutchison added: “This is the way I would construct it. $4.5 million in year one, which is double any player has ever received in a year. $2.3 million in year two and $2 million in year three. You've got to move that money out and early in the $18 million salary cap, which will grow in that time, as well.

"Then you're left with your window. So, years four and five is where their strategy matures. You would think they're going to have some, not all, of Taj Hotton in here, and Josh Smillie, they're not all going to be million-dollar players, but some of them are, some of them are going to be million-dollar players by then. And you've got to be able to get the money out, so that's still the $1.6 million average, but it clears the money out at a time which suits Zak.

"It'd be very hard to say no to if you're looking at that money, and your pitch is, you're going to captain that next premiership, and here's the pieces we put around you. You tell me he wouldn't look at that seriously?”

Riewoldt continued: “Absolutely you’d look at it seriously. You'd have to buy into the fact that Richmond are on the right track. The other attractive part of that, from a Richmond point of view, is you de-risk yourself later in his career, given the combative way that he plays. You're not on the hook for a massive number.”

Caroline Wilson: “It takes a special sort of player to be captained on day one.”

Kane Cornes: “Oh, no, he can do that. But if I were for Richmond, that's a great case, Richmond, beautiful, no worries, I'd do that. But you've got to say to Butters you’re going to a club on $1.6 million that’s won five games in the last two years, you could get more to go to a contender.

"So, it works for Richmond, great case for Richmond, beautiful, no worries they’d do that deal, but you’ve got to sell to Butters you’re not going to win a game for the next 3-4 years.”

Hutchison: “I think they're going to come on much better than that.”

Good pitch, have to say.

If we offer him something silly like 4.5m in 2027 then you can absolutely kiss goodbye vets like Lynch, Prestia, Broad etc. Which is fine by me personally.

Alternatively, if Port matches, we also have the best draft picks and are able to trade a maximum of 3 years worth - albeit they will end up compromised by Tas.

Almost no chance port match a ridiculous year 1. Year 2 I would guess

Not sure lynch would be gone if he is happy to accept minimum
