SEN yesterday were talking about deals different clubs could do to get Butters. For Richmond, they had us giving up picks 1, 19 and next year's first.

Ah no! :nope

What we can do is:
Here is pick 1 and pick 19
Give us your top pick (6-8) and Butters.
You get Dougie Cochrane.

If you say no, we pick up Butters in December draft.

If Butters wants to come to Richmond, we will get him.
This article is attacking the wrong angle.
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

And yet time and time again, players don't walk to the wooden spooner in the PSD.

If we get him it will be via trade, and we'll trade away a lot of picks.

Not interested. Would rather get 3 top picks in then trade them all for butters.

We need to be getting players through free agency and banking our top end picks

"Richmond is the outlier here.. it's comfortably beyond $15/16 million across the tenure and front-ended as well"

Agree TK.

If Port can't match it then we're golden.

Not interested in this trade if it involves giving away picks, we did tha with Taranto and hopper, no deal eddy
If we do a deal giving away picks why didn’t we just keep Bolton??

We desperately need to improve our list - think Butters is perfect for the right deal.

21 AFL stars Tassie should chase… and their chances of leaving, as fresh rules to blow up trade market

Ben Waterworth
Fox Sports
May 20th, 2026

The Midweek Tackle panellists divided 21 players into six categories regarding the likelihood of the Devils chasing or landing them.

‘GRAB IT PAYDAY’ – make the most of your chance and cash in

Jon Ralph says …

“Taj Hotton, I think, is a ‘no’. He’s a homebody, he wants to stay here. He’ll get massive cash at Richmond.

“Josh Smillie, he’s never going to get that good cash. But if by the end of next year he’s played very little at Richmond, it might almost be that one where you think, Jordan Ridley-style, ‘can another fitness program get me right?’ It’ll be a really important year for him in his third season.

“Harry Armstrong has shown huge potential at Richmond. He’s just going to slot in there nicely. I think Tom Lynch would go around for another year next year and I can’t see him moving on.

‘STALKING HORSE’ – use Tasmania to your benefit to get more money

Jon Ralph says …

“Jonty Faull, he’s someone that’s just starting to come good. But you’re not going to get mega bucks at Richmond. They (the Devils) might think one of these key forwards – whether it’s him (Faull) or an Armstrong – ‘we can build a side around that kind of player’. Let’s face it, you can have a lot of midfielders, (but) you need a big dog, an aggressive forward. That’s why someone like Jonty Faull is a bit of a chance.”

Josh Barnes says …

“I think the amount of players Richmond brought in and are going to be out of contract probably together, it means one or two of them are going to get pinched by Tasmania or probably somewhere else. This is where if you’re a Jonty Faull or even a Luke Trainor, you’ve got to try and make the most of it and say: ‘This guy is getting this much, what about me? Tasmania wants to pay me this much, give me those big bucks.’

‘CAN’T LET IT HAPPEN’ – may as well shut the club door if this guy joins Tassie

Jon Ralph says …

“Sam Lalor. Adem Yze has already said ‘we’re really considering a serious offer for him’. I’m sure he’ll be signed away pretty early.

ZAK BUTTERS (Port Adelaide)

Jon Ralph says: “Geelong might be $1.6 million, Dogs maybe $1.8 million, I think clubs like Melbourne and Richmond massively front-ended – maybe it’d get closer to $2 million.

The Tigers are ready to transition their focus towards the trade and free agency space and have put forward the most lucrative offer to Port Adelaide free agent Zak Butters in a deal worth close to $2 million per year for at least eight seasons.

"We looked at players last year," Gieschen said.

"We have list management meetings about players we're looking at and what the best thing for Richmond is. It's not as though we stepped away from trade. We assess all the players that are up for grabs and open. That's something we're constantly discussing.

We've stockpiled a lot of young talent, we're keen to hit the draft again this year. But if players of interest are available to us and it's the right thing for us, we're open to everything."

Tom Green is a free agent next year.

The number one thing is, are we going to be successful for the vast majority of my career? I suppose,” Green told SEN Breakfast.

“You obviously cannot predict 10 years ahead or however long, but the number one thing for me is - I want to win a premiership. That’s a feeling I want to have. I want to achieve the ultimate.

“The number one question that I'm asking myself is, ‘Where am I best positioned to do that?’. Things like, ‘Who do I think is going to be a successful club? Where do I think we’re going to be able to have sustained success?’.
